Ringling – Memorial Services for Wilma Lorene (Abshire) Strickland, 83 formerly of Ringling are scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday April 8, 2025, at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Ringling with Richard “Snip” Allen officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Alexander Gray Crematory of Ringling.
Wilma was born on May 5, 1941, at Ringling to the late Charles Peterson and Zetha Mae (Loftin) Abshire. She departed this life on Wed. April 2, 2025, at Edmond.
Wilma was a devoted resident of Ringling, graduating high school in 1960 and throughout her life, she remained closely tied to this vibrant community, only briefly residing in El Paso. Wilma dedicated a significant portion of her career to working as a switchboard operator, a role that showcased her commitment to serving others. In addition to this, she also embraced the hustle and bustle of the restaurant industry as a waitress, demonstrating her strong work ethic and engaging spirit. A passionate animal lover, Wilma had a special affinity for horses, finding joy and companionship in their presence. She was also a member of the Open Range Cowboy Church in Duncan.
Preceding her in death are her parents; brothers, Charles, Francis, Ezra and Cecil; and a sister Rachel Gilmore.
Survivors include her nephews and niece: Ron Abshire of Duncan, Dennis Abshire of Comanche, Tom Gilmore and wife Hope of Collinsville, Charles Gilmore and wife Patty of Wichita Falls, TX, Mike Abshire and wife Amy of Oklahoma City and Lana Carter and husband Dan of Edmond.
