Waylon Dancer officiating. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson.
Bill passed from this life on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 in Wilson. He was born in Gotebo, OK on July 25, 1930 to the late Mr. William Miller and Mrs. Valerie (Arrington) Miller. Following graduation from Gotebo High School, Bill attended Central State College where he studied music. He then worked at National Theatre Supply in Oklahoma City where he met Wilma Meyer who worked for Columbia Pictures. They were wed on December 2, 1949 in Edmond and one year later on their anniversary a daughter was born, Deborah Ann. They always enjoyed being able to celebrate their anniversary and her birthday on the same day. Bill studied drafting and mechanical drawing at Oklahoma City University before joining Trans World Airlines in Oklahoma City as a customer service agent. After seventeen years, Bill and Wilma moved to San Francisco for nine years and then to Seattle, Washington where Bill later retired from TWA. While in Seattle, he served as a district lay leader for the United Methodist Church. He and Wilma moved to Wilson in 1997 to help care for Wilma's mother, Hazel Meyer.
In his early years in Wilson, Bill worked as a custodian for Wilson Schools and later served as Mayor for almost four years, until a stroke left him unable to do some of the things he enjoyed most. He served as president of the Rotary Club, treasurer of the Boys and Girls Club, and has been active in the Chamber of Commerce, the Economic Development Authority, SODA and SORC. He also enjoyed being involved with improvements to the city park and the flower planters along Main Street. Another of Bill's interests was the Wilson Historical Society and Museum. He became a member in December 1998 and volunteered on many projects and on many Saturdays and in 2003 was elected Treasurer.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Deborah Polios, brother in law, James Meyer of the home; nieces, Dian Rose and husband David of Oklahoma City, Dawn Hacker of Mt. View and nephew, Larry Law and wife Rene of Gotebo, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Valerie Miller; sister, Wanda Gilbreath and wife, Wilma Miller.
The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at Mercy for their attentive care and the Wilson Nursing Center staff for being his home and providing support and love for over 6 years and to the staff at Alexander Gray Funeral Home.
