Graveside services for Willa Mae (Downey) Carter, 66, of Hennepin, are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Foster Cemetery with Phil Tolstad officiating. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Healdton.
Willa Mae was born on October 3, 1956, in Duncan to Mr. Vance “Hamp” Wayne Downey and Mrs. Cora Jean (Redwine) Downey. She departed this life on Friday, April 14, 2023 at Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Willa was raised in Ratliff City, attending school at Fox, graduating from High School with the class of 1974. She married Mr. Lee Carter on December 4, 1987, at Gainesville, TX and the couple made their home in Hennepin. Willa Mae was very talented in a crafty way. She could make something great from just about anything. Willa Mae loved fishing, metal detecting, and hunting arrowheads.
Preceding her in death is her father, Hamp Downey; her grandparents, George and Anna May (Lester) Redwine and Hector and Willie Mae (Bloodworth) Downey.
Survivors include her husband Lee of the home; daughter, Melisa Ponder of Katie, OK; sons, Joseph Jennings of Davis, and Paul Carter and wife Crystal of Hennepin; mother, Cora Jean Downey of Healdton; sister, Vickie Mitchell of Healdton; grandchildren, Vance Moore, Joseph Jennings, Vanna Carter, and Zoe Jones; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.
Honorary bearers are David Simpson, Richard Morton, Jimmy Gentry, and Richard Butler.
Family visitation will be held Tuesday evening, from 6-8 P.M., at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Healdton.
