Wilbert Edward Wiggs

Wilson – Funeral Services for Mr. Wilbert Edward Wiggs, 83, of Lone Grove, is scheduled for 10:00 AM Wed. March 16, 2011 at the Lone Grove Church of Christ with Cougan Collins officiating. Interment will follow at Maysville Cemetery at Maysville, OK. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.

Wilbert was born September 27, 1927 at Hughes, OK to the late Mr. W.N. Wiggs and Mrs. Clara Jayne (Wilson) Wiggs. He departed this life Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Sulphur, OK.

Wilbert graduated from Holdenville High School in 1945. He attended college at East Central University in Ada majoring in English. There he met and later married the former Deloris “Jack” Barrett and they soon married on January 19, 1954 at Ada. They lived at several communities in Oklahoma and Texas, before making their home in Madill in 1962 and later in 1987 moved to Lone Grove. Wilbert was a respected news journalist for 65 years. He was also a part time minister of the Church of Christ and very much enjoyed doing the Church bulletin at the Lone Grove Church of Christ, where he was a longtime member. Above all things, Wilbert enjoyed his wig wag column in the Daily Ardmoreite.

Preceding him death are his Parents, wife Deloris, April 12, 2007, Son W.E., 3 Brothers, and 1 nephew, Bobby McDonnell.

Survivors include Daughters, Melody Horsman of Lone Grove, Jayne Routt of Oklahoma City. Sister, Wanda McDonnell of Omaha, NB. 5 Grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren, 3 nieces, 2 nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Cody Brewer, Barrett Horsman, John McAdoo, Johnnie Barrett, Matt Barrett and Jake Barrett.

Honorary bearers JohnRoy McAdoo and all former Newspaper Colleagues and Staff.
