Virgil “Ray” Brawley, of Lone Grove, departed this life at his residence at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 7 days. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the River of Life Church in Wilson with Rev. Jim Duck and Rev. Dewain Duck officiating. Interment will follow at the Hewitt Cemetery in Wilson. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Wilson.


Ray was born on November 24, 1943 in Brock, Oklahoma to the late Mr. Albert Anderson Brawley and Mrs. Mertis Leona (Richardson) Brawley.


He was primarily raised in Abner, attending school at Meadowbrook and Overbrook. He graduated from Plainview High School. Ray married the former Ms. Patricia Alexander on December 9, 1963 at the Wilson Assembly of God Church by Rev. E.R. Dodd. He was employed at Colvert’s Dairy until gaining employment at Uniroyal in 1980. He worked as a Mold Changer for 25 years, retiring in 2005. Ray enjoyed coon and bird hunting when he was young. Ray immensely enjoyed his grandchildren.


Ray is preceded in death by his parents; five siblings, Grady Brawley, Wayne Brawley, Alice Harris, Bartie Holidy and Clifford Brawley; nephew, Ronnie Brawley.


He is survived by his wife, Patricia “Pat” (Alexander) Brawley of the home; daughter, Cheryl Martinez and husband Josh of Lone Grove; sons, Mike Brawley and wife Kelly of Lone Grove and Raymond Brawley and wife Kathy of Wilson; grandchildren; Levi Brawley and wife  Ashley, Whitney Shores and husband Waylon, Brianna Martinez and fiancé Brendan Carlisle, Jesse Martinez, Holly Martinez, Josiah Martinez, D.J. Kretzschmar and wife Caitlin,  Hannah Prewitt and husband Skyler; 10 great grandchildren and 1 more on the way; Many nephews, nieces, other relatives and a host of friends.


Serving as casket bearers will be Dennis Turpin, Brad McKinnon, Josh Martinez, Levi Brawley, Lane Brawley, and Waylon Shores.


Honorary bearers will be Harold Willingham, Martin Willingham, David Holidy, L.A. Holidy, Gary Brawley, and Wayne Dowdy.


Visitation will be held Friday 6-8:00P.M. at Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.
