Ringling - Services for Virgil Lee Davis are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 24, 2023, at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Ringling with Bro. Joe Taylor officiating and Johnny Blankenship assisting. Interment will follow at the Ringling Memorial Cemetery.
Virgil Lee was born July 25, 1965, in Oklahoma City to Mr. Virgil D Davis and Mrs. K Francis (King) Davis. He departed this life Wednesday, July 19, 2023, in Norman, OK at the age of 57.
Virgil Lee was raised at Newcastle where he attended school, graduating with the class of 1983. He initially worked as a welder, but later gained employment at Lake Hefner for the City of Oklahoma City, where he was employed for 28 years. He and the former Ms. Cathy Bayless were married October 3, 2014, at the McClain County Courthouse in Purcell. The couple made their home in Blanchard where they enjoyed their retirement. Cathy preceded him in death on February 16, 2021. Virgil Lee loved working on cars and dirt track racing. He won the 2010 Championship at Ada. Virgil’s interest in racing was Mini Stock, Pro Stock, and the Wing Cars.
His racing begins with Modify cars, as #77 at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds, and raced there for two years. The first year Virgil Lee won Rookie of the year, always doing his own repairs. When he began racing Pro-Stock Cars as #35, #88 and #20 he was at Clinton, Lawton and the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds. His next class was mini stock, racing at Clinton and the Oklahoma Sport Park at Ada. He also raced at Ardmore, always placing in the top ten wherever he competed. His accomplishments included being the Winter National Champion at both Ada and Clinton in 1998.
In addition to his wife also preceding him in death are his grandparents, Virgil and Estelle (Allen) Davis and Herman and Helen (Koch) Simmons.
Survivors include his son, Daniel Lee Davis of Spokane, WA; daughter, Anna Marie Davis of the home; parents, Virgil and K Davis of Newcastle, OK; brothers, Eddie Davis of Blanchard, OK and Mike Davis of Newcastle, OK; granddaughter, Cheyanne Covel of Choctaw, OK; numerous other family and friends.
Casket bearers are Casey Towns, Randy Davis, Bill Canary, Steve Davis, Eddie Davis and Wes Davis.
Honorary Bearers are Mike Davis, Ely Griffie, Adam Jarvis, Raymond Jarvis and Terry Merriman.
Family visitation will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, prior to the service.
