Ringling – Graveside inurnment services with military honors for Mr. Vernon Hilry Block, 85, are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 4, 2018 at the Ringling Memorial Cemetery Pavilion in Ringling, OK with Bro Joe Taylor officiating. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home and Crematory of Ringling, Oklahoma.
Vernon was born Nov 26, 1932 at Roosevelt, Oklahoma to the late Mr. Samuel Block and Mrs. Effie (Watson) Block. He departed this life on January 31, 2018 at the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Ardmore, OK.
Mr. Block was raised in Roosevelt and graduated from Roosevelt High School. He joined the United States Army and proudly served his country, receiving the National Defense Service Medal.
Vernon and Lucille Pinkley were married on Nov 1, 1981 in Ringling, OK. Together they made their home in Ringling where they would take care of their family and raise many foster children. He was a Rig Supervisor and worked in the oilfields of Southern Oklahoma. Mr. Block enjoyed watching football, basketball, and baseball. He faithfully attended his grandchildren’s sporting events. Vernon could be found playing bingo and dominos at the Ardmore Veterans Center. He was dearly loved by his family and will be missed by all.
Mr. Block is preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother in law, Dorothy and Charles Hilliard; Brother in law, Dick Trout; foster daughters, Barbara Collins Duke and Heather Melton Moss; step son, Robbie Blackman.
He leaves to cherish his memory; wife, Lucille of the home; daughters, Gaye Wilson and husband Randy of Kingston, Stacey Longest and husband Kim of Wichita Falls, TX, Denise Baker and husband James of Ringling; step son, Darrel Blackman of Healdton; grandchildren; Matt LaGrone and wife Wendy of Amarillo, Alex Wilson of Amarillo, Corey Longest of Edmond, Caleb Longest of Alva, OK, Clay Longest of Edmond, Stuart Baker and wife Vanna of Ada, Kalley Jo Byers and husband Mark of Ada, Cheyennea Duke of Ardmore; great-grandchildren, Gunner and Brynlee Baker of Ada; sister, Betty Trout of Crescent; brother, Kenneth Block and wife Mary Helen of Abilene, TX. Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
Visitation will be at the Alexander Funeral Home of Ringling on Saturday, Feb 3, 2018 from 6-8 P.M.
