Vera Mae Williams

Wilson - Graveside Services for Mrs. Vera Mae (Hacker) Williams, 79 of Wilson are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Hewitt Cemetery with Leslie Don Hacker officiating.  Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson.  

Vera was born to Geroge William Hacker and Lillie Ellen (Stafford) Hacker on June 25, 1944 in Oklahoma City, OK.  She departed from this life on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at the local nursing home in Wilson, OK. She joined three brothers, Gilbert James, Billy Bob and Kenneth Doyle.  The family moved from the city when Vera was 2 years old when her father quit McDonald Douglas because he was about to go in the service.  McDonald Douglas is now known as Tinker Airforce Base.  The armistice was signed, and he was inducted, so the family moved to the country between Wilson, and Lone Grove.  They moved there to be close to family and friends.  They moved down south of town.  Her father worked in the oilfields, and together as a family worked as farmers and ranchers.  At this point, another brother Loran Russell joined the family in 1949.

The children started and finished school at Lone Grove.  Vera and Loran did anyway.  The older boys started their earlier years in the city but finished at Lone Grove.  Their mother worked hard raising gardens, canning, sewing their clothes, and making quilts for the family and others.  She made hundreds of very beautiful quilts.  Vera's mother went to work cooking in the cafes when her father got down in bad health when Vera was twelve.  

Vera met Bobby Gene Williams when she was sixteen in Wilson.  They began dating, got engaged, and married in 1961 between her junior and senior year.  She graduated from Lone Grove in 1962 with honors.  They moved to Wilson, and had two daughters, Pamela Darlene, and Shelia Denise.  Pam was born December 1, 1964 and Shelia was born January 3, 1966.  They both went to school in Wilson and were very active in school and both married, had children and now have grandchildren.  Her family was her pride and joy. 

Vera grew up in the church and was saved when she was nine years old at Rosehill Baptist Church, and followed in Baptism when she was thirteen at Rexroat Baptist Church.  She had attended there until she got down in her health.  

Preceding her in death were her parents; and a brother, Billy Bob Hacker.

Vera is survived by her husband, Bobby; daughters, Pam Digby and Shelia Clayburn; 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; brothers, Gil Hacker and wife Becky, Kenneth Hacker of Ardmore, and Loran Hacker and wife Peggy of Lone Grove; best friend for life, Wanda York Phillips; and by a host of other family and friends.

Viewing and Visitation will be held at 12-2 P.M. before the service on Saturday at Alexander Gray Funeral Home.
