Vance Norton

Funeral Services for Mr. Vance Norton, 72, and formerly of Countyline, is scheduled for 10:00 AM Saturday July 2, 2011 at the Countyline Baptist Church with Rev. Pete Wylie officiating. Interment will follow at the New Velma Cemetery in Velma. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Ratliff City.


Vance was born June 5, 1939 at Countyline to Mr. Obie D. Norton and Mrs. Margaret Grace (Stephens) Norton. He departed this life Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Durango, Colorado.


Vance was raised in the Velma area and graduated from Velma High School in 1958. His friends were very important to him and he especially loved football. In later years he served on the Velma Alma school board.


He and the former Connie Briscoe were united in marriage on June 24 1959 at Countyline. Vance worked in the Oilfield running a Rig for 5 years and for 5 years was employed for a small independent oil company before starting his career with Amoco in 1967. He retired in 2005 from Amoco and has since been employed in the Oilfield as a consultant. Vance was a member of the First Baptist Church of Norman.


Vance was preceded in death by his Parents, Obie and Margaret Norton; Brother, Leslie Norton; Sisters, Eileen Spencer, Joyce Tivis, Camilla Lindsey, and Laura Lee Bost.


Survivors include his wife Connie of the home in Norman; Daughters, Sonia Cisneroz and husband James of Velma, and Cheryl Pruitt and husband Mickey of Countyline; Brother, Obie Norton of Velma; Sister, Ellen Herron of Kansas; 4 Grandchildren, Mindi Richardson and husband Jeramey, Jerod Wright and wife Johnnie-Ann, Barkley Pruitt and wife Morgan and Whitney Pruitt; 5 Great Grandchildren, Alec Richardson, Jimmy Richardson, Kanon Wright, Layla Richardson and Kaylor Wright. Numerous other family and friends.


Pallbearers will be Benny Hill, Skip Williams, Bob Wells, Harley Files, Eual Conditt and John Gilby.


A gathering of family and friends for visitation will be held Friday evening 6-8 pm at the funeral home in Ratliff City.
