Lone Grove

A memorial service celebrating the life of Tony Ray Anderson, age 83, of Lone Grove, will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Jonathan Yandell and Ethan Cox assisting.

Tony was born on October 6, 1940, in Canyon, Texas, to the late Millard Dea Anderson and Ona Leona (Greer) Anderson-Brummett. He passed away peacefully at his home on October 1, 2024.

Tony's early years were spent predominantly in Texas, though he also lived in the Northwestern United States and Oklahoma. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving honorably in Germany for two years. It was during this time that he met and married Dorothy McKinney on July 23, 1959, in Chicago, Illinois. Together, they welcomed their daughter, Cherie, while living abroad.

Throughout his professional life, Tony made significant contributions as the Water and Sewer Superintendent for the city of Pampa, Texas, from 1963 to 1982, and later as the Director of Public Works for Flower Mound, Texas, until 1996. Following the passing of his beloved wife Dorothy on August 1, 1996, Tony relocated to Lone Grove in 1997 to be closer to family. In this community, he worked with Monte Willingham, transporting trailers, and cherished time spent running cattle with his son, Clifford. Tony had a deep love for hunting, fishing, and enjoying the lake, and he was an avid reader with a particular fondness for all things John Wayne.

Tony was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Anderson; his mother, Leona Brummett; brothers, Dale Anderson and Jimmy Anderson; and his daughter, Cherie Maxwell.

He is survived by his son, Clifford Anderson and wife Doretta; son-in-law, Jim Maxwell; sisters, Ella Faye Irwin, Judy Jacques and husband Denzil and Peggy Baker and husband Ronnie; eight grandchildren, Michael Engel, Destiny Welch and husband Will, Justin Anderson and wife Nichole, Amanda Childress and husband Casey, Courtney Ayres and husband Brian, Kelsey Cox and husband Ethan, Madison Farve and husband Mattie, and Paige Anderson; as well as fifteen great-grandchildren, Travis and Foster Welch, Rylee, Alyssa, Cameron and Zoey Anderson, Payton, Blakely and Kenley Childress, Cailin, Isaiah, and Evan Ayres, Landon, Haisley and Cayde Cox and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Pallbearers honoring Tony's memory will include William Welch, Justin Anderson, Michael Engel, Casey Childress, Ethan Cox, Brian Ayres, and Mattie Farve.
