Wilson – Funeral services for Mr. Terry DeLa Gentry, 68, of Wilson are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the Ash Street Church of Christ in Wilson with Larry Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at Hewitt Cemetery with United States Navy providing military burial honors. Services are under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson.
Terry was born March 16, 1942 in Ardmore, OK to the late Mr. R.F.W. “Togo” Gentry and Mrs. Helen Jo (Morris) Gentry. He departed this life Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Ardmore.
Terry was raised in the Carter and Love County area. He joined the United States Navy April 27, 1959 and served honorably for 4 years on the USS Oak Hill. He was honorably discharged March 22, 1963 at Long Beach, CA. He and the former Ms. Marylan Watkins were united in marriage October 5, 1963 at Wilson. They first made their home in Ardmore and later moved to Wilson in 1972. Terry was employed in the Oilfield working on drilling rigs as a Driller and Derrick Hand and was also a very accomplished mechanic working on Autos, Semi Trucks and Aircraft.
Terry loved telling stories and enjoyed fishing. He enjoyed being with his family and grandchildren and always took pride in mowing his yard and keeping it neat. He enjoyed his fish aquarium and always enjoyed a good laugh. He was a member of the Ash Street Church of Christ of Wilson.
Preceding him in death are his Parents, Mr. Togo Gentry and Mrs. Helen (Morris) Gentry and his Grandparents.
Survivors include his loving wife Marylan of the home, Two Daughters, Crystal Gentry of Wilson, Cara Stubbs and husband Bobby also of Wilson. Son, Darren Gentry and wife Shellie of Wilson. 3 Sisters, Beverly Dye and husband Ernest of Quitman, TX, Rose Dorman and husband Ken of Canyon Country, CA, and Lisa Billingsley and husband Windell of Wilson. Brother, Roger Gentry and wife Debra of Corpus Christi, TX. 4 Grandchildren, Derek Gentry, Kadie Gentry, Logan Stubbs, and Brady Stubbs. Numerous other family and friends.
Pallbearers are Keith Miles, Kyle Sullivan, Paul Hughes, Gary Don Sanders, Bert Tynes, and Wes Fore.
Honorary Bearers will be the Men of The Ash Street Church of Christ, and James Rogers, Zack Smith, Derek Gentry, Brady Stubbs and Billy Bob Cross.
Family visitation will be 6-8 PM Friday evening at Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson
