Lone Grove - Funeral Services for Mrs. Sue C. (Hess) Miller of Lone Grove are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 19, 2014 at the New Hope Freewill Baptist Church of Lone Grove with Rev. David Gardner officiating. Interment will follow at the Newport Cemetery of Lone Grove. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.


Sue (Hess) Miller was born October 10, 1937 at Wheeler, Oklahoma to Mr. William H. Hess and Mrs. Thelma (McDaniel) Hess. She passed from this life Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Ardmore.


Sue started to school in Wheeler before her fifth birthday attending the first grade. Her family moved to Healdton while she was in the second grade and she continued school there through high school graduation in 1954. Sue married Kenneth Miller of Ardmore on December 8, 1956 at a preachers house in Healdton. She worked in city and county government for 14 years.

Sue became interested in journalism when the editor of The Daily Ardmoreite solicited her to do free lance writing for the paper based on some documents she had written. Sue loved journalism and she soon took classes and attended several journalism seminars before landing writing jobs for both the Ardmoreite and the Lone Grove Ledger. She won the first place award for feature writing in 1991 from the Associated Press/ Oklahoma Press Association. The following year Sue edited a series of articles on the The Americans with Disabilities Act, doing most of the writing and making assignments for other writers. She received a number of awards for this series, including an invitation to a reception in the state capitol where she received a plaque from the governor.

Sue was forced to take a medical retirement in 1994 and subsequently became involved in volunteer work and local politics. She enjoyed co organizing her 50th Class Reunion with her fellow classmates. Sue also helped arrange the first “Lone Grove Days”. She loved card games and enjoyed her garden and loved attending the New Hope Freewill Baptist Church of Lone Grove.

Kenneth preceded her in death on December 14, 2012. Also preceding her in death are her Parents, Mr. William H. Hess and Mrs. Thelma (McDaniel) Hess and her Parents in law, Claude & Bessie (Balthrop) Miller.


Survivors include her children, Kennita Moon and Fiancé Doug Epley, Rajeana Heath and husband Mike, and Kerry Miller and wife Lisa all of Lone Grove; Grandchildren, Angela Jester, Lindsay Price, Matt Harris, Brianna Shorter, Brandi Harris, Katelyn Moon, Kalub Miller and Makayla Heath; 10 Great Grandchildren; Sister, Lynne Jones and husband Don of Edmond; Brother, Bill Hess and wife Pat of San Antonio, TX; Special Cousins, Juanita Lewis and husband Norman of Davis and Jimmy Charles McDaniel of Houston, TX; numerous other family and friends.

Pallbearers are Joey Ross, Lane Ross, Bradly Grant, John Perdue, Nathan Christian and Larry Joe Miller.

Honorary Bearers are Healdton High School Class of 1954

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cross Timbers Hospice 207 C St NW, Ardmore or the Relay for Life c/o 1st National Bank and Trust of Ardmore 405 W. Main Ardmore


Family visitation will be held at Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson from 6-8pm Sunday evening.
