Shirley Earlene Thornburg

Ratliff City – Funeral Services for Mrs. Shirley Earlene (Christian) Thornburg, 77, of Healdton are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the Living Word Tabernacle Church in Ratliff City with Rev. Eugene Christian officiating. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home and Crematory.


Shirley Earlene Thornburg was born August 17, 1940 at Graham, Oklahoma to the late Mr. Samuel Christian and Mrs. Mary Eliza (Butler) Christian. She passed from this life on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Duncan Regional Hospital.


Shirley was raised at Graham attending school there. She married Mr. “Buddy” Carl Thomas Singleton and to this union they were blessed with five children, Barbara, Linda, Buddy Earl, Patricia, and Janie. Shirley was a devoted mother raising her kids at Graham. When the children were older, she worked outside the home at the Graham and Fox School cafeterias, and at the Grasshopper Junction. Shirley was married to mr. L.F. Hughes and to this union she was blessed with 2 boys, Jay and Clayton. Then later in life on December 16, 2000, Shirley married Mr. Kenny Thornburg at Hennepin. The couple has been happily married as residents of Healdton. Shirley enjoyed gardening, loving plants, crocheting, and her favorite thing to do was to dance. She was a past member of the Graham Assembly of God Church.


Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Donald, James “Snowball”, Lee Christian, and George Christian; infant daughter, Patricia; 3 sisters, Snooks, Evylene, and Marie.


Survivors include her husband, Kenny of the home, daughters, Barbara Rushing and husband Joe of Hennepin, Linda Josey and husband Mike of Gulfport, Miss, and Janie Wimberley and husband Steve of West Monroe, LA; sons, Buddy Earl Singleton and wife Renee of Livingston, LA, Jay Hughes and wife Myla of Ratliff City, and Clayton Hughes of Denim Springs, LA; L.F.’s children, Tommy, Charlene, Donny, Teresa, Allen, and Mickey; sister, Betty Carter and husband David of Graham; 21 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; numerous other family and friends.


Pallbearers will be Shirley’s family and church family.


Family visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. Wednesday evening at Alexander funeral Home in Ratliff City.
