Wilson - Funeral Services for Mrs. Shelby Jean (Persilver) Powell 77, of Wilson are scheduled for 10:00 am Thursday July 16, 2015 at Alexander Funeral Home Chapel of Wilson with Rev. Mike Johnston officiating. Interment will follow at the Simon Cemetery south of Wilson.

Mrs. Shelby Jean Powell was born June 15, 1938 at Loreauville, LA to the late Mr. Ulysses Joseph Persilver and Mrs. Esther (Arnaud) Persilver. She departed this life Monday, July 13, 2015 at her home in Wilson.

Jean moved from Louisiana to Andrews, TX as a young lady and soon met and married Mr. Carl Helton Powell who was working in the oilfields there. They were united in marriage on April 12, 1956 at Andrews, TX.

They led an adventurous initial years of marriage moving from town to town working on ranches and in the oilfields. They lived in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado and Arizona before moving to Wilson in the 1960's.

Jean was a homemaker who cared for everyone at the house and everything on the farm. Helton preceded her in death on June 17, 1992. Since Heltons passing, Jean has stayed very close to all of her children and enjoyed watching her soap operas, playing word games and puzzles. She was a member of the Wilson Assembly of God Church.

Also preceding her in death were her Parents; Grandson, Blaine Thomas; Daughter in law Tina Powell; Sisters, Mary Lee Smith, Eulaine Brown and Debbie Bothe.

Survivors include her daughter, Lena Edwards and husband John of Oil City; Sons, Carl Lee Powell and wife Carol of Madill, Pat Wayne Powell and wife Michelle and Mike Helton Powell, both of Wilson; grandchildren, Roger Powell and wife Britney, Dillon, Patrick, Travis and Marah Powell, Daniel Edwards, Cory and Craig Garrett; great grandchildren, Hayden, Allysin and Kynnedi Powell, Skylar and Jaxxon Garrett; siblings, Johnny Persilver and wife Lynda of Hobbs, NM, Lolita Finley and husband Jim of Cortez, CO, Jaunita Noble and husband David of Beaumont, TX, Bertha Orson of New Iberia, LA, Wayne Persilver and wife Nitt of Winnfield, LA, Marty Persilver and wife Florence of Campti, LA and UJ and Persilver, Jr. and wife Judy of Kent, WA; numerous nieces and nephews, other family and friends.

Casket Bearers are Roger Powell, Dillon Powell, Travis Powell, Daniel Edwards, Cory Garrett and Troy Barras.

Honorary bearers are Craig Garrett and Bruce Williams.

Family visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Wilson.
