Ringling – Graveside Services for Mrs. Sammie Louise (Tipton) Edmondson, 77, of Rattan, OK are scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the Ringling Memorial Cemetery in Ringling with Rev. Alex Costea officiating. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Funeral Home of Ringling.
Sammie was born March 31, 1934 in Comanche, OK to the late Mr. Jess G. Tipton and Mrs. Minnie Roberta (Scott) Tipton. She departed this life Wed. April 27, 2011 at her residence in Rattan, OK.
Sammie was raised at Mountain Home attending school there until her high school years where she graduated from Ringling High School. She married Mr. Melvin “Red” Rhea Edmondson February 4, 1952 at Ft. Hood, TX. They initially made their home in Ringling before they moved to Alaska. Sammie always worked very hard. She was employed mostly in construction as a superintendent but throughout her years, had been employed as a beautician, post lady, a civil engineer, fishing cannery employee and most recently a rancher. She and Red lived various places following construction work and made their home in Rattan, OK to enjoy their retirement years.
At Rattan Sammie was instrumental in the construction of the Senior Citizens Nutrition Center. She also attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University attaining her Masters Degree in Special education, graduating with a 4.0 GPA. Her husband Red preceded her in death on December 22, 2010.
Also preceding her in death are her Parents; Siblings, Bill, Edna and Jack and one grandson, Leland Fox.
Survivors include her Daughters, Regina Edmondson of Waurika, Cynthia Johnson and husband Robert of Palmer, AK, and Debbie Gray of Oklahoma City. Son, Randall Edmondson and wife Ellie of Kenia, AK. Sister, Lena Tooman of Sapulpa. Brother, Buddy Tipton and wife Mary Belle of Tulsa. 9 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and other family and friends.
Casket Bearers are Randall Edmondson, Robert Johnson, Matt Winders, Jonathan Fleming, Tommy Finch, Jr., and Jerry Tarbet.
Family visitation will be from 6-8 pm Monday evening at Alexander Funeral Home of Ringling.
