Ringling – Graveside Services for Mr. Ronald Mitchell “Mitch” Stanton, 73, of Ringling are scheduled for 10:00 AM Monday, January 19, 2015 at the Ringling Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Ben Shirley officiating. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Ringling.
Ronald Mitchell “Mitch” Stanton was born June 2, 1941, to Mr. Henry Grady Stanton and Mrs. Daisy Mae (Templin) Stanton, at the Carter/ Jefferson county line, north of Center Point. He passed from this life Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Oklahoma City.
Mitch went to school for one-half year at Zaneis, then continued through the 8th grade at Center Point. In 1955, Mitch and Sherry Abshire were the only two graduates from Center Point’s eighth grade. Mitch then graduated high school at Ringling, in 1959.
He entered the U.S. Army on January 2, 1960 and spent June 1960 through March 1962 in Hawaii, with some short stints overseas. Mitch was honorably discharged March 1962 and moved to Oklahoma City to work as a framing carpenter on new houses and apartments.
Mitch and Joan L. (Parker) Lockwood were married in El Reno, on January 5, 1965; they were married until Joan’s death July 3, 2008. Mitch and Joan lived in Oklahoma City for 20 years before moving to Ringling.
Mitch spent 30 years working as a carpenter in Oklahoma City and surrounding areas. He remodeled some stores in a Dallas, TX shopping center after President Kennedy was killed and framed and corniced condominiums in Breckenridge, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joan Louise Stanton; sisters-in-law, Carol L. Stanton and Drucella Muncy.
Mitch is survived by his brother, Donald R. Stanton of Wheatland; brother and sister-in-law, Derl and Kay Stanton of Blanchard; nieces, Carla Stanton and Frieda Gayle (Kemp) Stanton of Oklahoma City; great nephews, Brandon Lee and Christopher Lee of Blanchard; special friends, Armeda Smith and Rhonda Scifres.
Family Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 2-4 PM at the Alexander Funeral Home of Ringling.
