Rogers Maurice Morgan

March 31, 1933 — July 30, 2008

Rogers was born March 31, 1933 in Cheek, OK to the late Erskin Davenport and Clara Shaw Morgan. He departed this life Wednesday July 30, 2008 at his home in Simon.

Rogers was reared at Simon attending school at Simon, Orr and later attended high school at Meadowbrook. At Meadowbrook he was an All State Basketball Player and was part of the team that won the State Basketball State Championships his junior and senior years. He first attended college at Cameron Junior College in Lawton and later attended college on a basketball scholarship at Midwestern in Wichita Falls. There he was a member of the Basketball Team for Four Years and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree. He later received his Masters Degree from East Texas State in Commerce, TX. Adding to his achievements in the sport of Basketball, Rogers played 1 year of Semi- Pro Basketball. He and the former Ms. Katherine F. Jackson were united in marriage July 18, 1953 at Ardmore, OK. He and her had recently celebrated 55 years of marriage together, as Rogers would say 55 years of marriage to “my Wonder Women”. Rogers was a teacher and a Coach of the Boys and Girls High School Basketball Teams at Antelope, TX for 2years. He was a also a High School Basketball Coach at Lockett, TX for 3years, before serving as the principal at Lockett Grade School for 8years.He also taught and coached at Ryan, OK for 2years before moving to Vernon, TX in 1969. There he coached the High School Boys Basketball Team for 2 years, served as Vice Principal at the Intermediate School, and Principal at Shive Elementary for 20 years. Rogers returned to Simon to live at his family’s Farm in 1995, where he loved to farm and loved his cattle. He spent hours in the pasture tending to the farm and cattle. Rogers also loved finding time to fish. Rogers had a very devout love for his Family and Students. He was always outgoing, loving to visit with his family, friends and even strangers. He was a very kind and generous man with a terrific sense of humor and loved everyone he knew. Rogers had been attending the Cheek Baptist Church where he rededicated his life to Christ just 6 months ago.

Preceding him in death is his Parents, and a sister Brenda Smith.

Survivors include his Loving Wife” Kat” of the home, 2 Sons, Ricky Lynn Morgan and his wife Beverly of Allen, TX, and Michael Glenn Morgan and his wife Jenny of Spring, TX. Grandchildren, John-Henry, Mary Glenn, Emily Clair, and Jed Avery. Sisters, Patricia Hall and husband Cal of Maysville, KY, Carolyn Martin of Mexia, TX. Brother, Jerry Dwayne Morgan and wife Barbara of Ardmore, OK. Special Nephew, James Caldwell of Houghton, LA. Good Friend and Fishing Buddy, J.B. Jansa of Vernon, TX. Numerous Nieces and Nephews and countless friends.

Pallbearers will be Terral Tucker, Walter Gerald Frank, J.B. Jansa, Charles Davenport, Larry Davenport, Herbert Downes, Greg Whatley and Jeff Whatley.

Honorary Bearers will be Bobby Hodges, Steve Jansa, Larry Wilson, Butch Tucker, Steve Tucker, T.J. Tucker, Bobby Tucker, Clyde Nipp, Nelson Warden, Don Lamb, Johnny Haseloff, Wilbert Sanders and all former students and faculty.
