Healdton - Memorial Services for Robert Allen Howard is scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Friday, October 30, 2020 at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Healdton with Rev. Mike Johnston officiating. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Healdton.
Robert Allen Howard the son of O. L. and Dorothy (Stewart) Howard was born in Texon, Texas on October 3, 1948. He departed this life on October 24, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Ada.
Robert was a good athlete and excelled in football, basketball and golf when he was a student at Reagan County High School in Big Lake, Texas. He attended San Angelo State University-majoring in marketing and physical education. He was a proud member of the United States Army and served as a paratrooper during the Viet Nam War. After his service, Robert began working in the oil industry and spent all of his working life in the “oil patch”-sometimes overeseas, sometimes offshore but always enjoying the people he worked with. His most interesting job was working for Clayton Williams.
Anyone who was around Robert for very long quickly learned that he not only liked the Texas Longhorns but that he loved to tell you all about them, play their fight song on his ringtone, always supported them and could often be seen wearing something that had the Texas Longhorns logo on it.
Robert was blessed with a daughter, Heather Hall and two grandchildren-Derek Chatham and Sylvia Jane Hall. He always referred to Heather as his “pride and joy.” These two were “blood” grandchildren but there are many young people who called him “Papa Robert.” The final sixteen years of his life were spent with Judy Roberts. He quoted Trisha Yearwood’s song, “For the first time, I’m in love for the last time” when he described their relationship.
He is survived by his daughter, Heather Hall, grandchildren, Derek Chatham and Sylvia Jane Hall of Whitehouse, TX; brother-John Howard and wife, Beverly of San Antonio, Texas; sister-Georgia Howard Brown and husband Kenneth of Big Lake, Texas; Nephew Kevin Howard and wife Darla-children Joseph, Riley and Allison of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Nieces Tira Brown of Big Lake, Texas and Kimberly Howard Doramus, husband Darrell and baby daughter, Everley of Austin, Texas; Sean and Laura Chatham and children and a host of wonderful friends who he considered family.
Honorary bearers will be Derek Chatham, MAG Eric Cosper, Sean Chatham, SPC Jayson Patton, SGT Eric Patton, Tommy Reynolds, Dean Riggs, Arnie Ramon, and Eric Ramon.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship in his memory has been established. Anyone wishing to make a donation to the scholarship can do so through the Healdton Alumni Association, P. O. Box 771, Healdton, Oklahoma 73438.
