Wilson – Funeral Services for Mr. Paul Gilbert Walker, 92, formerly of Orr is scheduled for 10:00 AM Friday, September 23, 2011 at Alexander Funeral Home Chapel in Wilson. Burial will follow at Hewitt Cemetery in Wilson. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.

Mr. Walker was born October 6, 1918 at the O’Savior community to the late Mr. Gilbert Cecil Walker and Mrs. Addie (Rogers) Walker. He departed this life Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Ardmore.

Paul was raised in the Orr Community graduating from High School there in 1939. He worked in the Conservation Corps camp at Lake Murray and then joined the United States Army at Ft. Sill, OK March 11th of 1942. He served honorably during WWII, being in the Battle of Bulge, and the European Campaign as a Truck driver, clerk and combat infantryman. He was honorably discharged in 1945 at Camp Chafee , Arkansas with 3 bronze service stars. He then went to work for the Navy at China Lake, California in development of the Atomic Bomb working in the explosives division retiring from there in 1978. He spent his retirement years as an avid golfer, and also enjoyed gardening.

He was married to the former Ms. Marguerite Bural in February of 1974 in Sacramento, CA. She preceded him in death on September 2, 2007.

Also preceding him in death are his Parents, Two Brothers, Earl “Bud” Walker and Melvin Walker; Sister Mary Francis Walker.

Survivors include his companion Joanna Walker of Wilson; Sons, Robert Lee Saylors and wife Peggy, and Charles Gilbert Walker and wife Pam, all of Bentonville, AR; Sister, Dorothy Lyle of Ringling; Two Brothers, Bruce Walker of Texas, and Charles Walker of Florida; Grandchildren, Chad Walker, Shawn Saylors, Colby Saylors, Staci Saylors, and Robert Saylors. 10 Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and other family.

Pallbearers are Chad Walker, Shawn Saylors, Colby Saylors, and Christian Blackmore

Family visitation will be from 6-8 pm Thursday evening at the funeral Home in Wilson.
