Orval Foster Segroves

Wilson – Graveside Pavilion Services for Mr. Orval Foster Segroves, 72, of Wilson are scheduled for 2:00 PM Thursday February 23, 2017 at the Bomar Pt. Cemetery Pavilion. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.

Orval was born on March 9, 1944 in Ardmore to the late Leonard and Hazel (Foster) Segroves. He departed this life on February 20, 2017 after an extended illness at Ardmore.

Orval was raised a mile south of the Rexroat School. He attended Rexroat for eleven years, then graduated from Wilson High School in 1962. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 1967 from the University of Oklahoma. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on August 1969 and attended boot camp at Ft Polk in Vernon Parrish, Louisiana and at Ft Belvoir, Virginia. He then received training as a platoon leader with the 575 Engineering Battalion in Ft Stewart, Georgia. After training, Orval was stationed with Co. B 92nd Engineer Battalion as a Combat Engineer Platoon Leader. Orval’s company was stationed at the Vietnam Regional Exchange in Long Binh. He received an honorable discharge February 6, 1972 and was a member of the reserves until August 6, 1975. At the time of his discharge Orval had reached the rank of 1st Lieutenant. While in service, Orval earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with 1 O/S Bar. While in the reserves, Orval returned to Oklahoma University where he received a Master’s degree in Math. He then returned to Wilson and took over his father’s plumbing business and the family farm. In 1985, Orval married Juanita Taylor DeLano becoming a great father to 3 children, Juanette, Richard, and Allison. On July 4th 1988, he opened “The Store Etc” and operated it until 2008.

Orval was very involved in the community and volunteered with many organizations. Any thing anyone needed, Orval was always willing to help any time. He was one of the original founders of the Wilson Historical Society in 1998 and served on the museum Board of Directors since its inception. He was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce receiving the Outstanding Chamber member award in 2000. He was also a long term member of Rotary Club. In 2007, he received the Volunteer of the Year award.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and brother, Claude Segroves.

Survivors include wife Juanita of the home; children, Juanette Miers and husband David of Wilson, Richard DeLano and wife Vonda of Dillard, and Allison Holland and husband C.J. of Edmond, and 4 grandchildren he adored, Alex, Taylor, and Ashley Holland and Shelby DeLano; brother, Albert Segroves of Mustang; several nieces and nephews.

Honorary Bearers are Claude Burris, Charles “Chuck” Alexander, Ron Alexander, Bud Young, Alex Holland, David Miers and Richard Segroves.
