Velma - Funeral Services for Mrs. Opal Mae (Pickens) Wright, 95, of Alma is scheduled for 10:00 AM Tuesday August 1, 2017 at the Velma Assembly of God Church with Rev. Jimmy Doan and Rev. Travis Stewart officiating. Private Interment services will follow at Claud Cemetery. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Velma Chapel.
Opal was born on Jan. 13, 1922 at Claud to the late Mr. Edmon "Cub" M. Pickens and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth (Walker) Pickens. She departed this life Thursday evening, July 27, 2017 at her daughters home in Alma.
Opal was raised in Claud attending school there. She married Mr. Charlie Thomas "C.T." Wright on Jan. 4, 1941.
They made their home mainly within Alma moving there in 1948. Opal was an exceptional homemaker; always having good food and peach cobbler for the growing grandsons to enjoy. She taught her family, by example, doing good to those around her and instilled in everyone a strong work ethic. She was a proud member of the Chickasaw Nation and had been a supportive and longtime member of the Velma Assembly of God Church.
Preceding her in death are her parents, husband C.T. Wright, brother, Edmond "Chief" Pickens and sister, Cuba Dee Foster.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Kelley and husband Ray of Velma; son, G.W. Wright and wife Teddy of Velma; grandsons, Billy Mack Wright and wife Jana and Rusty Weldon Wright, all of Velma and Scott Kelley of Granbury, TX; 5 great grandchildren, Seth Wright, Brandi Wessell, Cherokee Wright, Dillon Kelley and Ryan Kelley; 5 great great grandchildren, A.J. Wessell, Abigail Wessell, Cole Wright, Gage Wright and Hadlie Wright; sister, Thelma Sosebee of Marlow; numerous other family, church family and friends.
Casket Bearers will be Billy Wright, Rusty Wright, Scott Kelley, Seth Wright, Brandy Wessell and Dillon Kelley.
Honorary bearers are Cherokee Wright and Ryan Kelley.
The family would like to give a very special thank you to Grace Barrett for her love and kind felt care during Opals illness.
Family visitation will be held from 6 to 7 pm Monday evening at Alexander Gray Velma Chapel.
