Wilson - Oliver Jackson “Buck” Marutzky, age 83, of Wilson, left this life August 2, 2018 at his home following a lengthy illness. Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the Hewitt Cemetery in Wilson with Rev. Jim McGaughy officiating. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson.
Buck was born on October 11, 1934 in Wilson, the 4th of 5 children born to Oliver Herman and Elida Gladys (Holmes) Marutzky. He attended school at Wilson, farmed and ranched in the local area his whole life, raising peanuts south of Wilson for a time. Additionally he worked for the railroad in Chicago, in the oilfields around the country, an iron worker with Wichita Falls local 536, built missile silos in North Dakota, traveled to Alaska for work on the pipeline, and as a carpenter during the initial construction of the Ardmore tire plant. Buck had a truly green thumb and could grow any crop or plant, he very much enjoyed his vegetable garden. He was always willing to help anyone who needed or asked for his assistance.
Buck and Shirley Raye Smith married in a civil ceremony September 1951 becoming parents to Sherry Lynn of Overbrook, Danny Lee who has passed away and Angel Annette who has passed away. The family lived south of Wilson until Shirley’s death.
Buck and Opal Christine Branson married December 7, 1962 at the Wilson First Baptist Church, and they became parents of Tina Marie of Edmond and Scott Allen and Holly Jeanette who both live in Wilson.
He is survived by one sister Wilma Kaye Whitson and four of his children; 9 grandchildren Bryan Acox, Brandi Acox, Taralee Marutzky, Jessica Milner Bernardin, Christina Milner Park, Danielle Marutzky, Paige Rutledge Ledbetter, Ashley Rutledge, and Lacy Rutledge; 9 great grandchildren, and one great great.
Buck is preceded in death by his parents, both wives, 2 children, his brother Joe and sisters Mary and Geralda and his step mother Pauline Brian Marutzky.
Pallbearers will be his daughters, Sherry, Tina, and Holly.
