Oleta Joyce (Alexander) Haynes

August 2, 1940 — January 29, 2021

Wilson - Memorial Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Hewitt Cemetery with her nephew, Fred Gundermann, III officiating. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson.

Oleta Joyce (Alexander) was born on August 02, 1940 in Wilson, Oklahoma to Mr. Eugene Dawson Alexander and Mrs. Christine Ellen (Cross) Alexander. She was called to Heaven by her Lord and Savior on January 29, 2021 at the age of 80 years. You may have known her by one of these lovely terms of endearment: Oleta, Joyce, Leta, Grammie, Sis or Aunt Oleta; all because she was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grammie, Sister, Daughter and Aunt.

Oleta always felt extra blessed when she was able to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, genealogy, gardening, online games and puzzle solving, collecting Teddy Bears and black dishes; and we can't forget lemons – yes lemons!!! She ate lemons as if they were apples; always ordering extra slices when dining out. She loved the color pink, especially pink carnations. She loved pink and pink carnations so much the family is asking attendees to wear pink to her Graveside Memorial Service; and, if sending remembrance flowers, to please include pink carnations.

Throughout her life Oleta lived in many cities, including Wilson, OK; Corpus Christi, TX; Landstuhl, Germany, Nacogdoches, TX; Balch Springs, TX; Bacliff, TX; and finally settling in Graham, OK for the remainder of her years. While living in Bacliff, TX she met and married Frederick J Gundermann, Sr. Together they had four (4) children; Kim Renee Gundermann Muller; Frederick Joseph Gundermann, Jr; Leslie Eugene Gundermann and Dana Lynn Gundermann Fitzgerald. After those ten (10) years of marriage to Frederick ended Oleta moved to Nacogdoches, TX. In 1973 Oleta would move back to Bacliff, TX where she served her community as the Bacliff Volunteer Fire Department Secretary/Treasurer from 1974 - 1989; and, in conjunction, she also served as their President from 1984 -1988. Oleta eventually moved back to Oklahoma in1990 and reunited with the late Roy Lee Haynes, a childhood friend, whom she would marry on May 19, 1993. They made their home in Graham, OK for many years until Roy’s passing on March 18, 2014.

Oleta is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Leslie Eugene Gundermann; brothers, Eugene Ulysses Alexander, Dean Alexander, Jesse Lee Alexander and William Delbert Alexander; stepsons, David Haynes and Rick Haynes.

She leaves to cherish her memory to her daughters, Kim Renee Muller and husband Mark of Houston, TX; Dana Lynn Fitzgerald and husband Mike of Powder Springs, GA; her son, Frederick Joseph Gundermann, Jr and wife Kay of Bacliff, TX; and stepdaughter, Linda Haynes of Sapulpa, OK; along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many other relatives and a host of friends.
