Wilson- Funeral Services for Dr. Noma D. Rector, 93, of Wilson is scheduled for 10 am Monday,March 2, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Wilson with Rev. Sherry Kendrick and Daryl Schmitt officiating. A second service will be held 10:00 am Tuesday March 3, 2009 at the Gate Friends Church in Gate, OK officiated by Daryl Schmitt. Interment will follow Tuesday’s service at the Knowles Cemetery, all under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson.


Dr. Noma was born August 24, 1915 at Knowles to the late Mr. Laurence Dickerson and Mrs. Estella Adah (Brunner) Dunn. She departed this life Friday February 27, 2009 at a healthcare facility in Duncan.


Dr. Noma was raised at Knowles moving to Gate and later graduating High School from Eagle Wood School in Kansas. She first attended college at Alma and later received her bachelor’s degree in Biology and Chemistry from OSU. She was a teacher before she soon discovered her interest in medicine by diagnosing a young lady of an ailment at Camp Quaker Haven in Kansas. At this time she was only 20, too young to enter osteopathic school, so she observed until she was of age. She received her Doctorate degree in Osteopathic medicine from the Kansas City Osteopathic College with emphasis in pediatrics. She practiced first at Kansas City, and taught also at a local Nursing School. She then would move to Roosevelt, Ok from 1950-1954 before she came to Wilson. At Wilson she practiced with Dr. Cockrell at first, but later opened her own clinic and practiced here in Wilson for a total of 50 years, retiring in 2004 due to her facilities being consumed by a fire. During that time she delivered numerous children, cured the sick and help the poor. Her days in Wilson were an attribute to its community and have been honored by having the “Dr. Noma Days” in Sept 2, 2000 and lastly Feb. 14, 2004. Dr. Noma had an avid admiration for gardening, often seen behind her Clinic in her greenhouse. She also loved to paint, farm, and watch the birds. She was a member of the Oklahoma Osteopathic Medical Assn, was listed in the Who’s Who of American Women, and was a Honorary lifetime member of the American Osteopathic Ass. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wilson.


Preceding her in death is her Parents, 3 brothers, Roy, Wayne and Glenn Dunn, and 2 sisters, Thelma Taylor and Margaret Rector.


Survivors include a Daughter, Mary Stearns of Wilson, Son, Dr. John R. Rector and wife Doris of Comanche. 2 Brothers, Robert Dunn and wife Naomi and Laurence Dunn and wife Irene, and 1 Sister Louise Hein all of Gate, OK. 5 Grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.


Pallbearers are David Hull, Daniel Hull, Dr. Charles Mettry, Dale Turney, Dr. David Evans, and Jacob Saunders.


Honorary bearers are Dave Shores, Ron Alexander, Bob Wilson, Dr. Dee Alexander, Ronnie Stearns, Jr., Larry Forsythe, and Dr. Jeff Vrielink.


A special thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice and Healthcare for their gentle care and heartfelt support.


A family visitation is scheduled from 5- 7pm Sunday evening at the funeral home in Wilson.
