Wilson – Funeral Services for Mrs. Nelda Gaye (Baxley) Dewbre, 66 longtime resident of Courtney Flatts, are scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Alexander Funeral Home Chapel of Wilson with Rev. Terry Tolbert officiating. Interment will follow at Belleville Bourland Cemetery in Courtney.
Nelda Gaye (Baxley) Dewbre was born August 26, 1946 at Gainesville, TX to the late Mr. Clifford Teague Baxley and Mrs. Cleo B. (Banks) Baxley. She departed this life Wed. March 20, 2013 at her home in Healdton.
Gaye was a resident of Courtney all of her life. She attended school there until its closing and then attended school at Ringling graduating from Ringling High School in 1964. She attended college at East Central University where she received a Bachelors Degree in Education. She was a teacher initially at Clayton and then at Madill for 7 years. During the summer of 1976 she was taking some fiddle lessons from Mr. Glen Dewbre . They soon fell in love and were married on June 25, 1976 at Ardmore by Judge Gary Blevins. They made their home together at Courtney Flatts and Gaye taught school as a kindergarten teacher and music teacher at Turner Schools. She was employed at Turner Schools from 1976 to 2003. Glen preceded her in death on April 9, 2009. After his passing, Gaye moved to Healdton to be with her son. During her pastimes, she loved to play the piano or keyboard and also read novels. She was a member of the Courtney Methodist Church where she attended all of her life.
Also preceding her in death is her Parents, Clifford and Cleo Baxley; and a brother Malcolm Baxley.
Survivors include her Son, John C. Dewbre and wife Carrie of Healdton; Cousin Georgann Spivey of Pauls Valley and numerous family and friends;
Pallbearers are Gene Jackson, Paul Jackson, Randall Jackson, Wendell Thornton, Larry Smith and W.A. McClain.
Honorary Bearer is Henry Heidelburg.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Cross Timbers Hospice 207 C St NW Ardmore, OK 73401.
The family will be receiving friends at the home of Mr. John Dewbre’s in Healdton.
