Nadine Shearing

Wilson - Memorial Services for Mrs. Nelda Nadine (Battles) Shearing, 84, are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 2, 2010. Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson is in charge of services.

Nadine was born July 9, 1925 at Hewitt, OK to the late Mr. Walter Hubbard Battles and Mrs. Claudia (Lindsey) Battles. She went to be with her Lord December 22, 2009 after a long 17 year battle with cancer. Her fight to the end was a journey she would not give up on and faced death with determination and perseverance.

Nadine and the late Mr. William “Bill” Shearing, Jr. were united in marriage October 31, 1942 at Wilson. Nadine was employed as a telephone operator for many years retiring from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. Since her retirement she spent her time sewing and reading along with taking care of her ill husband and Mother till she was 102 years old.

Raising her children was one of the greatest joys of her life. She also enjoyed helping raise a few grandchildren. One of her passions was cooking and making sure that all who entered her kitchen left with a full stomach. She lived as she died with all her heart and soul, with all her pride and dignity with all her family and love they poured out to her.

Preceding her in death is her Father and Mother, Husband, Bill, July 31, 2005, Son Gary L. Shearing September 18, 2005, Granddaughter, Michelle Renee Fincher, and a brother Dennis Battles.

Survivors include a special daughter in law, Sherry Burrell of Oklahoma City, 2 Daughters, Barbara Slawson, and husband Roy of Wilson, Tessie Burton and husband Paul of Lone Grove, 3 Sisters, Mava Fisher of Duncan, Ginger Spencer and husband Jerry of Durant, and Vicki Powell and husband Dale of Springer, 3 Brothers, Bob Battles, and wife Jeanne of Cleburne, TX, Norman Battles and wife Margie of Oklahoma City, and Charles Battles of Wilson. Grandchildren, April Shearing, Gary Charles Shearing, Timothy Shearing, Hilary Slawson, Melanie Slawson, Stephanie Christian, Jerica Burton, Erin Shearing, and Bryce Shearing. 14 Great Grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.

A special thanks to Dr. Brian V. Geister, staff of Cancer Care Associates of Ardmore, and Cross Timbers Hospice, Dr. Hamill, and nurses Tina, Pam and Chaplain Denise.
