Monty Dean Smith

Wilson- Services for Monty Dean Smith, 69, of Wilson are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Friday, February 24, 2023, at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Wilson with Rev. Mark Fuller officiating and Clint Walker assisting. Interment will follow at the Mt. Olive Cemetery at Healdton. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson.


Monty was born October 21, 1953, to the late Mr. Billy Dean Smith and Mrs. Judy (Sparrow) Smith. He departed this life Saturday, February 18, 2023, at his home in Wilson.


Monty was lovingly raised by Bill and Vivian Smith in the Fox/ Healdton area most of his life, graduating from Fox High School with the class of 1971. He was employed by Uniroyal, Conoco/ Phillips refinery on Convict Hill, and most recently for L & W Environmental Services running the hot oil unit where he retired. Monty met the love of his life, former Ms. Diana "Diane" Cantrell, in 2000 and the couple later married on March 20, 2012, at Madill, OK. To this union he gained two special daughters that were always treated as his own. Monty loved hunting, fishing, camping, and watching football as he was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He was an avid gun and knife collector. Monty loved spending time with his grandkids. He had a fun-loving sense of humor, always telling jokes and playing pranks. His laugh could fill the room.


Preceding him in death are his wife, Diane Smith in 2019; parents, Billy Dean and Vivian Smith; mother, Judy Smith; sister, Nancy Jo Smith; brother, David Smith; mother-in -law, Sue Cantrell; father-in-law, Bobby Cantrell; nephews, Cody Joe Wade and Daniel Whitener.


Survivors include his two special daughters, Stephanie Davidson and husband Josh of Ardmore and Nicole McMahan and husband David of Ardmore; sisters, Theresa Cox and husband Bobby of Ardmore and Carol Hunter of Norman; brother, Darrin Smith and wife Debra of Wylie, TX; sister-in-law, Carla Whitener and husband Gary of Wilson; niece, Jennifer Whitener of Wilson; grandchildren, Jaci Davidson, Caden Davidson, Addie Davidson, Ella McMahan, and Everly McMahan; special friends, Peggy and Jeff of Healdton; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends.


Honorary bearers are Peggy Sears, Jim Irwin, Randy Whitsett, and Gene Stroud.


Pallbearers will be Caden Davidson, Josh Davidson, David McMahan, Jeff Kays, Derek Smith, and Dylan Smith.


The family would like to express a special thanks to Good Home Health and Sara Porter for their wonderful care and services.


Family visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6-8 P.M. at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home at Wilson.
