Wilson - Funeral Services for Mr. Melvin Eugene Walker, 81, of Ardmore is scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kevin Pridemore officiating. Interment will follow at Cheek Cemetery south of Lone Grove.
Melvin was born October 5, 1929 at Wilson, OK to the late Mr. Charlie Walker and Mrs. Emmer B. (Gillespie) Walker. He departed this life Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Ardmore, OK.
Melvin was raised south of Wilson at Ghost holler attending a 1 room schoolhouse at Parker Hill School. He later moved to Ft. Worth, Texas and attended his later days of school there. He and the former Ms. Mignon “Mickey” L. Savage were united in marriage July 18, 1946 at Ft. Worth, TX. They continued to reside in Ft. Worth where Melvin worked as a lumberman, lastly being employed for Travis Britt in Ft. Worth. In 1989, they moved to Oklahoma residing at Ardmore and Melvin soon became employed for Stolfa Bros. HDW Store where he was well known as a counter salesman until its closing in 2004. In his retirement Melvin loved to farm and educate his family about farming. He was always a man of his word and his handshake was his bond. He was a member of the Texas Lumberman’s Association and was baptized and held membership at the Kennedale Methodist Church.
Preceding him in death are his Parents; Daughter In Law, Linda Sue Walker; Brothers, Sylvester “Sonny Boy”, Leonard, Newton, Arvin, Chock, and Frank; Sisters, Phelina, Dora and Sylvia.
Survivors include his loving wife Mickey of the home in Ardmore; Daughters, Cindy Stephens and husband Raymond who was like a son to Melvin, of Keller, TX, and his “baby daughter” Jeani Walker of Round Rock, TX. Son, Larry E. Walker and wife Anita of Mt. Calm, TX. Sisters, Daisy Pittman of Phoenix, AZ, and Delia Swain of Granbury, TX. Brother, Alvie Walker of Wilson. 7 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren and 13 Great Great Grandchildren. Numerous other family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Robert Forester, Daryl Devoult, Kevin Walker, Bobby Erlinger, Bub Gentry, and Charlie Morton.
Honorary Bearers will be Don Jackson and Barry Mouton.
Family visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm at the funeral home in Wilson.
