Rush Springs – Home Going services for Mr. Melburn Edward Slawson, 92, of Rush Springs is scheduled for 11:00 am Thursday, April 6, 2023 at the Vimy Ridge Baptist Church of Rush Springs with Bro. David Hale officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 PM at the Ringling Memorial Cemetery Pavilion. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Ringling.
Mr. Slawson was born Jan. 22, 1931 at Last Chance, OK, SW of Grady to the late Mr. John Lunsford Slawson and Mrs. Bessie (Miller) Slawson. He went to his heavenly home on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at Chickasha.
Mr. Slawson was raised primarily at Ringling graduating high school there in 1951. He married his high school sweetheart, the former Ms. Elizabeth Ann Jones on April 28, 1951 at Waurika. They moved to Kermit, TX, where Melburn obtained employment for Mobil Oil Co. They relocated his employment in 1955 to Rush Springs, operating for Mobil Oil Co. He was employed for a total of 38 ½ years and retired in 1990 as the plant operator. There, Mr. Slawson had acted as the Executive Committeeman of APEU. He helped start the Union for the employees of Mobil Oil negotiating a contract every two years for the workers of Mobil Oil for 30 years.
Mr. Slawson and wife Elizabeth loved to travel, always visiting family along the way. He loved to collect any kind of pocketknife, belt buckles and loved watching westerns. He was a dedicated Dallas Cowboy fan, who loved his grandchildren beyond anything. Mr. Slawson was a member of the Vimy Ridge Baptist Church serving as a committed member since 1959, always serving in any position necessary for the Lord.
Preceding him in death is his parents; son, Robert Slawson; his beloved wife, Elizabeth , Nov. 17, 2017; daughter in law, Mary Slawson; siblings, Evelyn, Roxie, Verna, Barbara, Johnnie , Donald and Terry.
Survivors include his sons, Joe Slawson and his fiancée’ Ellen Thompson of Rush Springs, and Jerry Slawson and wife Rhonda of Cyril; grandchildren, Tracie Greeson, Rachel Hudson, B.J. Slawson, Joseph Slawson, Travis Slawson, Jane’ece Fourkiller, Shawn Slawson, Amanda Scott and Janee Slawson; 20 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; brother, Montie James Slawson of Thackerville; sister, Patricia Ann Woods of Sand Point, ID; numerous other family, church family and other friends.
Casket bearers are Travis Slawson, Shawn Slawson, B.J. Slawson, Shane Hudson, Caleb Fourkiller and Cody Charlson.
Honorary bearers are Chantry Scott, Tracie Greeson, Jeff Greeson, Joseph Slawson, Catrina Slawson, Jane’ece Fourkiller, Janee Slawson, Rachel Hudson, Amanda Scott, Chelsea Slawson and Jennifer Slawson.
Family visitation will be held from 5 to 7pm Wednesday evening at Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Ringling.
