Wilson – Funeral services for Mary Estella Strawn, 85, of Wilson are scheduled for 10:00 AM Thursday, November 10, 2016 at the First Freewill Baptist Church at Healdton with Bro. Chris Lindsey officiating. Interment will follow to Newport Cemetery. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.
Mary Estella Strawn was born August 25, 1932 at Oil City to Mr. Lester Denney and Mrs. Alpha Ruth (Castleberry) Denney. She departed from this life Friday, November 4, 2016 at Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Mary was raised in Oil City, south of Dillard Rd. attending Wheeler School and later graduated from Rexroat High School. At a young age Mary was married to Mr. Howard Strawn on July 17, 1950 and the two made their home in Ardmore. Mary attended Pharmaceutical School at Vernon, TX. and soon went to work for Gary Tiger at Tiger Pharmacy in Ardmore. She later became employed by The McCrory Foundation around 1975 as a bookkeeper that led to her long time position as their Director. During most of that time, Mary also worked on the McCrory Ranch filling any position at need. She enjoyed her grandchildren more than anything. Mary was also a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church of Healdton.
Preceding her in death was her parents; husband, Howard Strawn on August 14, 2014; daughter, Terry Ittana; sister, Hazel Marshall; 2 brothers, Buck Denney and Herman Denney.
Survivors include her grandsons, Lynn Christian and wife Lori of Cornville, Arizona, Walter Christian and wife Jamie of Milo, OK; granddaughter, Stacie Sampson and husband Leslie of Springer, OK; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; numerous other family and friends.
Casket Bearers will be Matthew Christian, Evan Christian, Charles Christian, Dalton Christian, Sid Lee, and Ty Scott.
Honorary Bearers are Jake Kennedy, Alan Christian, Ethan Christian, Ittana Christian, Tayte Sampson, Samantha Christian, Kamryn Sampson, and Breanna Ellis.
Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday evening at Alexander Funeral Home Chapel of Wilson.
