Mary Adah Tiner

Funeral Services for Mrs. Mary Adah (Thomas) Tiner, 97 of Zaneis is scheduled for 10:30 A.M., Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Zaneis Baptist Church with Rev. Spence McConnell and Rev. John Hatfield officiating. Interment will follow at Ringling Memorial Cemetery. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home, Wilson, Oklahoma.

Mary was born August 15, 1920 at Claypool, Oklahoma to the late Mr. Johnny Isaac “J.I.” Thomas and Mrs. Nancy Ellen (Baker) Thomas. She departed from this life on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at the Wilson Nursing Center.

Mary was raised near Claypool at the old Red Hill, attending school there. She married A.C "Smoky” Tiner of Stonewall, Oklahoma, on December 5, 1937 at Cornish. At this time, they worked on the Ott Burnett Ranch. They moved to Ponotoc , farming and ranching with Mr. Burnett. They moved back to the Zaneis area in 1953, where Mary always helped with the farm and cattle. Mary had a green thumb, raising both vegetables and flowers. She was a talented seamstress making her kids clothes and quilts for the family. She also worked as an Avon representative for many years. She worked on the election board for years, and loved to play dominoes and bingo. Mary attended Zaneis Baptist Church until her health prohibited her from going.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, A.C. “Smoky” Tiner on June 10, 1978; daughter, Mary Tiner Cantwell, who was a twin to Robert, on August 19, 2003; sons in law, James Cantwell and Gary Rich; two brothers, R.D. Thomas and Robert “Dick” Thomas; sisters, Dorothy Rogers and Roberta Lanier and by a granddaughter, Katrina Cantwell Wimer.

Mary is survived by children, Robert Tiner and wife Jo Dean of Lake Kiowa, Texas, Sherry Rich of Graham, Oklahoma, Terry Tiner and wife, Rose of Zaneis; brothers, Vernie Thomas of Perryton, Texas and Junior Thomas of Ponotoc, Oklahoma; grandchildren, James Alan Cantwell and wife Susan, Randy Cantwell and wife Brenda, Kathy Hammons and husband Bill, Brad Tiner, Becky Opp and husband Douglas, J.C. Choate and wife Kelly, Jackie Demps and husband Cory and Lisa Stewart and husband Mike; 27 great grandchildren and 22 great great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, J.C. Choate, Brad Tiner, James Alan Cantwell, Randy Cantwell, Bill Hammons and Douglas Opp. Honorary bearers are Junior Thomas, Vernie Thomas, Mark Means, John Stanton, Lavell Engle and Lindsey Southward.

A family visitation is scheduled for Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson.
