Longtime Jefferson County resident, Martha Ruth Reid (Hobbs, McHale, Skinner), was born to Elbert and Lorene Reid at Grady, OK and passed from this life at her home In Ringling, OK on August 19, 2023, at the age of 87.
Martha started school in Ringling and graduated from ER Snyder High School in San Diego, California where her husband Edward Hobbs was serving in the US Navy. After returning to Ringling, Martha started employment in 1960 with the Department of Human Services where she retired in 2013, after 53 years. During this time Edward passed away. And, after a little match-making, Martha and Glen McHale married and made their home in Waurika for many years until Glen passed away. Martha eventually made her way back to Ringling, where she and an old friend Charlie Skinner married and lived until he passed. She always said she married 3 really great men, and we can all attest to that.
A few of her favorite things to do were to cook, shop, and travel with her good friend Melva. They traveled to Australia, New Zealand, and many other places. And also, a fun trip she made was with her daughter in laws and granddaughters to New York. Her love of cooking will be missed by all that had the pleasure of tasting, because she was definitely one of the best.
Matha answered many family members that are scattered all over Oklahoma and Texas by the name of Granny Martha and Aunt Martha. The Reid/ Hobbs family, the Gaines/McHale family, and the Skinner family all loved her dearly.
Preceding her in death were her parents; an infant brother, Donald Elbert Reid, and husbands, Edward Hobbs, Glen McHale, and Charlie Skinner.
Survivors include her children, Pat and Kristie Gaines, Mike and Jana Gaines, Pam Gaines, Karen Ryan, Debbie and Doug Williams, and Terry and Susan McHale; Martha had many grandchildren and great grandchildren along with other family and a host of friends.
