Marlan (Buck) Thompson went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. Visitation will be at Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler, Texas from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 2, 2023. Funeral services will be conducted at Lanes Chapel Methodist Church in Tyler, Texas at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 with Rev. Paul Thompson and Rev. Jeff Gage officiating. Graveside services will be held at Hewitt Cemetery near Wilson, Oklahoma at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.
Marlan R. Thompson was born June 13, 1933 in Carter County, Oklahoma to the late Silas and Della Thompson. He graduated from Wilson High School in Wilson, Oklahoma in 1951, and the University of Texas at Austin, Texas with a degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1963. After working as an engineer at various locations in Texas, he retired and moved to Tyler, Texas in 1995.
Marlan met Colleen Lawrence in 1952. They were married in 1957. They had two sons, Larry and Paul. Colleen went to be with the Lord on February 17, 2008. He spent four years in the U.S. Navy during the period 1953-1957. Marlan enjoyed reading, traveling, hiking, serving in the local church, and visiting family members. He was ordained as a deacon in 1962 and has served in various Baptist churches for many years. Marlan taught Sunday school, visited the sick and shut-ins and was involved in evangelism. He is currently a member of Lanes Chapel Methodist Church in Tyler, Texas.
Marlan was preceded in death by his loving wife, Colleen, his parents, Silas and Della Thompson, brothers, Onis, Travis, Kenneth and Maynard, and sisters, Nelda and Jean. Marland and Colleen celebrated 50 years together just prior to her death.
He met Rae Brandt in July, 2008. They were married in November 2009.
Marlan is survived by his loving wife, Rae, his two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Kim Thompson of Princeton, Texas, and Paul and Karen Thompson of Skiatook, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Lindi Creel, Trevor Thompson, Arinée Conner, and Rachel Briche and five great-grandchildren, Rowan, Caleb, Barrett, Casper and Noah. He also has two stepsons, John Brandt of Garland, Texas and David Brandt and two stepdaughters-in-law.
