Margrie Estella (Jennings) Lackey was born to the late Joseph Henry "Joe" and Mary Estella (McLain) Jennings on February 13, 1921 in the Ratliff City area. She passed from this life on Wed. February 5, 2014 at her home in Ratliff City at the age of 92 years, 11 months and 22 days.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and a 1938 graduate of Fox High School. She attended Hills Business College and worked for McDonald Douglas in the machine shop during World War II and several years as a secretary. After her father’s death in 1950, she moved back to Fox to help her mother.
She married L.B. Lackey on November 18, 1954 at the Ratliff City First Baptist Church. She was proud that L.B. bought part of the estate her parents owned and the land she was born on for their home.
Margrie was a member of the Carter County Extension Homemakers Club and the Fox Baptist Church since her teenage years. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, painting, arts & crafts, and her 4 granddaughters.
She loved her family and was known by many as “MaWee,” a name bestowed by her granddaughters.
Her family and neighbors were always welcome for a glass of lemon tea or a cup of coffee. She will be forever missed by her family and friends.
Preceding Margrie in death are her parents and siblings: Harold Jennings (brother), Ruby Jennings Skaggs (sister), Marvin Jennings (twin brother), and Nila Jennings Gandy Riggs (sister). Her beloved husband, L.B., who died on March 11, 1998.
She is survived by her 3 children and 2 daughters-in-law: Bryan and his wife Marsha of Ardmore, Paul and his wife Sandy of Ardmore, and Lisa of Shawnee; 4 granddaughters: Leah Lackey of Aurora, Colorado, Dr. Halee Lesch and her husband Chris of Erie Colorado, Tess Lackey and Katie Lackey of Ardmore; and numerous other family members including 5 special nieces: Suzanne Standefer (Soldotna, AK), Jo Ann Stowe (Minco, OK), Jema Mendelsberg (Humble, TX), Jenny Kay Warden (Crossville, IL), and Cheryl Garrette (Manchester, MO). She loved them all very much.
