Lucien Jordan Clour

Ratliff City – Graveside Services for Mr. Lucien “Luke” Jordan Clour, 84, of Pruitt City, are scheduled for 11:00 AM Friday, April 8, 2011 at Collins Cemetery near St. Louis, OK with Rev. Carl Taylor officiating. Military Burial Honors be performed by the Unites States Navy. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Funeral Home of Ratliff City.


Luke was born to Mr. Thomas Lane and Mrs. Mae (Jordan) Clour on November 2, 1926 at Tecumseh, OK. He departed this life Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at his home in Pruitt City.




Luke stayed in Tecumseh for only 1 year then moved to St Louis, OK. He was raised on a farm during the Seminole Oil Boom. He joined the Navy in 1944 when he was 17yrs old, leaving from San Diego, CA boot camp at Treasure Island. He was shipped out to the Philippines and was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946.


Initially, he worked at Warren and Bradshaw Drilling a few days and then went back to CA in 1947 and 1948. In 1947 he worked in a pencil mill in Stockton, CA. He was laid off, and then when to work at CASE and then Atlantic Pacific Tea Company. He was a Fruit tramp in those days, receiving two checks a week, an expense check and a salary check. A motel was $35.00 per week and he worked all over California.


His company car was a 1950 Plymouth business coupe. In 1953 Luke came back to work for K T Kembrook in the oil field. He soon met Veda at a cousin’s house, Houston Price, in Maud who lived two houses up from Veda’s mom and dad. They soon married in 1955 at Stratford at the Methodist church. They moved to Wirt, OK then to Fox and then to Texas. In Texas Luke worked for a drilling company , Barnhart and Banhart and Murry and later worked for Wolfe, checking drill collers. He then worked for Magnolia Oil and moved to Midland Texas and in 1959 and got laid off. That’s when he became employed for Conoco and moved to Ozone, Texas and then to Big Lake Texas. They moved to Enid for 6 months and then to Hennessy after that. In 1967 they moved to Healdton and then to Ratliff City in 1970 where he retired from Conoco, April of 1985 at the age of 58. Luke was a long time dominos player at Marty’s and a big supporter of the Fox Foxes.




Preceding him in death is his Parents, Sister; Bernice Archer, and a Brother; Ray Clour.




Survivors include his loving wife Vedabelle of the home; Two Daughters, Luciann Balch and husband Doug of Duncan and Robin Teters and husband Jerry of Oklahoma City. Sister, Alice Fay Wells of Medera, CA and numerous other family and friends.




Family visitation will be from 6-8 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home in Ratliff City.




In lieu of flowers of donations are encouraged to be sent to the Chisholm Trail Hospice, 2000 West Elk, Duncan, OK 73534.
