Loye Gene Walker of Lone Grove departed this life on January 30, 2022 at his residence in Lone Grove at the age of 90 years, 1 month, and 1 day. Graveside Services with Military Honors are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the Hewitt Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Mike Johnston officiating. Interment will follow in the Hewitt Cemetery. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Wilson.
Mr. Walker was born to the late Mr. Arthur Steele Walker and Mrs. Willie Maude (Mann) Walker on December 29, 1931 in Nimrod, TX.
Gene was raised in Texas and after High School he joined the United States Marine Corp on March 24, 1952 in Abilene, TX and proudly served his country until discharging on March 12, 1954 in San Francisco, CA. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal.
Gene was a hard working man that had worked in the oilfields his entire life until retiring from Union Oil Company. He and Barbara Jean (Rutledge) were married and made their home in Lone Grove for several years.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Glendene Denton; and one great grandchild.
Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Barbara Walker of the home; daughters, Tracie Bevers and husband Troy; Tracey Hamilton, Cathey McCutchen and Gina Black and husband Lee; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren; Many other relatives and a host of friends.
