It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Laverne (Maxwell) Dulworth, who left us on December 27, 2024, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, at the age of 75. Born on January 20, 1949, in Healdton, Oklahoma, she was a cherished daughter of the late Luke and Robbie Mae Maxwell. Laverne's journey through life was marked by love, generosity, and a nurturing spirit that touched everyone who knew her.
On July 14, 1966, Laverne married the love of her life, Donald Dulworth. Together, they built a beautiful family, blessed with a son, Donald Ray, and a daughter, Carolyn Mae. Sadly, after sharing an enduring love, she lost her beloved husband on February 6, 2004. Despite her loss, Laverne remained a pillar of strength and love for her family, embracing every moment with grace and warmth.
Laverne dedicated 21 years of her life to the Velma Public Schools, where she served as a beloved cook in the lunchroom. Her kitchen was filled with laughter and friendship, and she became known affectionately as "Verne" to many. With a generous heart, she often added little extras to the children’s trays, delighting them with her compassionate spirit. It was in these halls that she forged lifelong connections and left an indelible mark on the hearts of countless students.
Outside of her work, Laverne found joy in tending to her garden and delighting in the tranquility of fishing—whether at the creek, Terry Jack's Pond, or Doc's Lake. Her commitment to her community was reflected in her active membership at the Velma Baptist Church, where she found solace and purpose.
Laverne is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Donald, and her sister Hazel Ann. However, her spirit will forever live on in the lives of her survivors: her son, Don Dulworth and wife Debbie of Velma; her daughter, Carrie Dulworth Brown of Jenks, OK; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; sisters Barbara Browder of Velma, Faye Morrison of Duncan, and Leona Dulworth of Velma; brother James Maxwell and wife Billie of Davis; and a cherished circle of friends who were blessed to share her life.
Her memory will be honored at a funeral service on January 3, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Velma, officiated by Rev. Kerry Glasgow. Interment will follow at Stewart Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her beloved grandsons, with honorary bearers Johnny Rue and Steve Airington.
Visitation will take place on Thursday evening from 6-8 P.M. at Alexander Gray Velma Chapel. Please consider commemorating Laverne’s legacy by sharing memories at www.alexandergrayfh.com.
Though she has departed from this world, Laverne Dulworth's legacy of love and kindness will forever resonate in the hearts of those she touched. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
