Healdton

Fox- Funeral services for Joyce Louise (Walker) Griffin, 83, of Healdton are scheduled for 10:00 am Friday April 4, 2025, at the Fox Baptist Church with Rev. Carl Taylor officiating and granddaughter, Heather Cook providing the eulogy. Interment will follow at Hewitt Cemetery at Wilson. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Healdton.

Joyce Louise (Walker) Griffin was born October 18, 1941, and went to be with her Heavenly Father on April 1, 2025, surrounded by her family. Joyce was the only daughter to Ervin Newman Walker, Sr. and Mrs. Mamie Louise (Robbins) Walker, and sister to three brothers. She grew up in Fox, Oklahoma, and graduated from Fox High School in 1959. The same year she married the love of her life, Kenneth Griffin, and they raised two daughters – Kimmy and Tammy – in Fox.

Joyce dedicated her life to her family and was a woman before her time. In addition to being a wife, mother, and homemaker, Joyce made time to attend Empire Beauty School in 1972 and opened “The Beauty Room” at her home in Fox and worked as a beauty operator until 1982. In the late 1970s, she and Kenneth co-founded Ken-Car Corporation where she acted as the Executive Secretary until her retirement in 1998.

Professionally, Joyce was a member of the Ardmore Chapter of the Business & Professional Women’s Club (B&PW) and the American Petroleum Institute (API). Not only a career woman, Joyce also served the community with the Carter County Republican Party, acting as Secretary, and served as President of the Fox Alumni Association. She was a member of Fox Baptist Church her whole life.

When not styling the women of Fox in the hot hairstyles of the day or going toe-to-toe with an oilfield executive, she was an artist, seamstress and avid landscaper. Joyce spent her free time with her family or picked up a scrap piece of fabric to create exquisite curtains or cover an “accent” chair. Joyce was a wild creative at heart and could often be found “fixing” a bought painting or piece of furniture. Later, in between cross word puzzles and pondering the day’s politics, she enjoyed taking drives to take in the “fall foliage” and visiting her children and grandchildren unexpectedly!

She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ervin “Newman” Walker, James Walker and Don Walker, and sister-in-law Elewease Walker.

She is survived by husband Kenneth Griffin of the home, daughter Kimmy Ward and husband John Ward of Fox, daughter Tammy Higginbotham and husband Gary Higginbotham of Edmond, granddaughters Heather Cook and husband Nathan Cook of Edmond, Summer Ward of Fox, Kaitlin Clarke and husband Kevin Clarke of Edmond, great-granddaughter Annie Hale of Fox and sister-in-law Sue Walker of Fox. Numerous other family, church family and friends.

Casket Bearers are John Ward, Gary Higginbotham, Nate Cook, Kevin Clarke, Charlie Claxton and Danny Lovelace.

Honorary bearers are Danny Wells, Cass Reser, Ryan Taylor, Brandon Taylor and the men of the Fox Baptist Church.

Many thanks to the staff at Mays Hospice, Lezlie Hacker, Holly Baker, and Kelly McMillian for their compassionate assistance.

Viewing is available all-day Thursday at Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Healdton.
