Joyce Earlene Hurley

Ardmore- Funeral Services for Joyce Earlene Hurley, 89 of Wilson are scheduled for 2:00 PM Wed. May 11, 2022 at St. Mary Catholic Church of Ardmore with Father Kevin Ratterman officiating. Interment will follow at the Bomar Point Cemetery in Wilson. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Wilson.

Joyce was born October 24, 1932 in Ardmore to the late Mr. Luther Earnest Hurley and Mrs. Vivian Emoline (Wendling) Hurley. She departed this life on Sat. May 7, 2022 at her home in Wilson.

Joyce attended grade school and Junior High School at Wilson graduating High School from Zaneis in 1951. She went on to study nursing, graduating from the Oklahoma General Hospital School of Nursing in 1954 and finalized it by taking the State Board exam for Registered Nurses. For 38 years, Joyce worked as a Registered Nurse in Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas. In 1992, after 25 years of employment at Memorial Hospital of Southern Oklahoma in Ardmore, she retired.

Joyce was of the Catholic faith and was very involved in the Catholic Church Saint Cecilia of Healdton where she was titled as “the caretaker” for many years. She visited many homebound people and was a recipient of the Papal commendation from Pope John Paul II. Since the closing of the Healdton Catholic Church, Joyce enjoyed attending mass at St. Mary Catholic Church of Ardmore.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Luther and Vivian; brother, LeRoy Hurley; sister, Bobbye Elaine (Hurley) Bracken; nephews, Joe Lynn Bartlett, Ronnie Reece; nieces, Annita “Pebbles” Bartlett and Jeanette Stewart.

Joyce is survived by her sisters, Betty Sue Bartlett and husband Joe and Bonnie Baker; brother in law, Alford Bracken; nieces, Cathy Bracken; close friends who are like family, Lou Ann Freeman, Jan Shores, Christi Isaacs and Christina Phue; numerous other nieces and nephews, cousins, church family and friends.

Casket bearers will be family members attending the services.

Honorary bearers are the many Co-nurses and her loving church family.
