Simon- Graveside services for Mrs. Joyce Culwell, 71, of Simon are scheduled for 2:00 PM Thursday January 22, 2009 at Simon Cemetery with Rev. Jim Duck officiating.

Joyce was born September 17, 1937 in Oscar, OK to the late Charles H. and Alice Lemmie (Strickland) Romines. She departed this life Monday January 19, 2009 at an Ardmore healthcare facility.

Joyce was one of twelve children, raised in Southern, Ok she attended school at Grady, Orr, Oscar and Courtney. She married Mr. Thomas “Sonny” M. Culwell March 21, 1953 at the Assembly of God Church in Wilson at the age of fifteen. She was a devoted wife and homemaker, raising two daughters working on the family farm. She also was employed at Marietta Sportswear, and later at Memorial Hospital in Ardmore retiring in 1986 due to her health. She loved her family dearly and also loved to sew, work puzzles and spend time with her grandkids and great granddaughters. She was a past member of the Eastman Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death is her Parents, Sisters, Martha, Jewel, Maybell, Ethel, Alice, Shirley and Corine, and one brother, Charles, Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas “Sonny” M. Culwell of the home, 2 Daughters, Janette Carlile and husband Aaron of Simon, and Cheryl Culwell of Davis. Mother-in-law, Altha Culwell of Simon, 2 Sisters, Pearl Davis of Ft. Worth, and Lois Duke of Terral. Brother, Jimmy Romines and wife Jean of Orr, and Sister in law, Almenia Culwell of Simon. Granddaughter, Brandi Carlile of Wilson, and Lori Mai of Simon. Great Granddaughter, Kaylyn Barbour and Tyler Mai. Numerous other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be David Duke, Pete Carlile, Terry Hix, Jerry Hix, Jacky Glenn, Roger Romines, Lacy Hodges and James Williams.

Family visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5 to 6pm at the funeral home in Wilson.
