John Wesley Shores

Wilson-Funeral Services for Mr. J.W. “Pee Wee” Shores, 82, of Wilson are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 6, 2008 at the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel in Wilson with Pastor Robert Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at Hewitt Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson.


Pee Wee was born January 27, 1926 at Dillard to the late Mr. Alfred O. Shores and Mrs. Myrtle Evelyn (Beck) Shores. He departed this life Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Oklahoma Veterans Center in Ardmore.


Pee Wee was born and raised at Dillard, graduating from Wilson High School in 1944. His senior year of High School he entered the U.S. Navy. He was first stationed in San Diego as a landing boat instructor, and later served sea time in the Pacific aboard Navy vessel USS Niagara. During those duties he served at the Battle of Okinawa during World War II. Post war assignments included voyages to Japan and China. He was Honorably Discharged in 1946. He and the former Ms. Norma Jean Forbess were married July 16, 1949 at Wilson. He worked as a welder for Jones Oil Company for 20 years and then later was a welding contractor for several oil companies in this area until his retirement in the early 1980’s. In his retirement he enjoyed gardening, especially growing tomatoes. He also took pleasure all of his life fishing, camping and boating at Lake Murray.


Preceding him in death are his parents, Alfred and Myrtle Shores, his loving wife of 50 years, Norma Jean Shores, twin grandchildren, Shane Wesley Shores and Mollie Belle Shores, and son-in-law, Buddy Vincent.


Survivors include his daughter, Kathy Vincent of Blessing, TX, son, Rex Shores and wife Leann of Memphis, TN, brothers, Dave Shores and wife Pauline, Jack Shores and wife Robbie all of Wilson. Grandson Jeff Ponder and wife Connie of McKinney TX, granddaughter, Ashley Shores of Oklahoma City, great-grandchildren Josh, Caleb and Emma Ponder all of McKinney TX, and best friend Charlie Dutton of Wilson.


Pallbearers will be Charlie Dutton, Kyle Hacker, Jeff Ponder, Mark Shores, David Shores, and Rodney Dutton.
