Healdton – Mr. John Morris Adams was born January 26, 1928 at Breckenridge, TX to the late Mr. William Laviga “Vig” Adams and Mrs. Sarah (Peek) Adams. He departed from this life on April 5, 2017 at his home in Healdton at the age of 89 years, 2 months, and 9 days. Arrangements are under the care of Alexander-Gray Crematory at Ringling.
John was raised at Freer, TX and began his work in the oilfield at the age of 12. He was quite an athlete even playing some college football for Texas A&M. John was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving honorably during WWII as a clerk typist receiving his discharge on September 25, 1947. He married the former Ms. Evelyn Hunter on June 29, 1951 at Freer, TX. While working in the oilfield, John and Evelyn lived at Sequin, Tx and several other Texas communities before settling in Healdton in 1958. John was employed by Mobil Oil until he retired at the age of 57. After retiring, the couple enjoyed traveling in their motor home. John also enjoyed wood carving.
Preceding him in death are his parents; brother, Bucie Adams; and grandson, John Seth Adams.
John is survived by his wife, Evelyn Adams of the home; daughter, Debra Poteet and husband Champ of Hastings; sons, Donnie Adams and wife Sherrie of Oil City and David Adams and wife Iris of Irvington, AL; sister, Maurine Cashion and husband Carol of Nederland, TX; brother, Travis Adams and wife Betty Jean of College Station, TX; grandchildren, Eilizabeth Bass and husband Nick, Jennifer Williams and husband Brodie, Carla Poteet, Stephanie Adams, Amy Adams and Michelle Smith, Daryn Brady and husband Jared; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; numerous other family and friends.
