Grady - Graveside services are scheduled for Mr. John "Johnny" Morgan Reid, 81, of Grady at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the Grady Cemetery with Jimmy Morris officiating. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.
Johnny was born August 20, 1935 at Ryan to the late Mr. Joseph "Joe" Reid and Mrs. Jessie (Morgan) Reid. He departed this life on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at his home in Grady.
Johnny was raised in Grady attending school through the eighth grade. He attended his high school years at Ringling where he was very involved in the FFA. Johnny served as the vice president his junior year and president his senior year of the Ringling FFA chapter. He received Junior Master Farmer Degree for his accomplishments. He joined the United States Army in 1955 and served honorably for 13 years. During this time he was a paratrooper serving with the 11th and 82nd Airborne Division. After his honorable discharge he returned to Grady to farm and ranch with his Father.
Johnny married the former Patricia Hodges on August 7, 1974 at Waurika. Johnny worked in the Oilfield as a pumper before gaining employment at the Michelin Tire Plant of Ardmore. He worked in the Mixing Dept. on the 2nd floor as a Forklift Operator. He retired in 1998 and spent the rest of years farming and ranching at Grady.
Johnny was very instrumental in the construction of the Grady Community Center and held every Veterans Memorial Service at the Grady Cemetery. He also was responsible for placing flags on all the veterans graves at Grady each Veterans Day. Johnny attended church at the Gospel Tabernacle Church of Ringling.
Preceding him in death are his Parents; infant sister Quitha and Brother, Dale.
Survivors include his wife Patricia of the home; son John Corey Reid of Grady; daughter, Kaila King and husband Mike of Cornish; grandchildren, Madison and Rani King and Presley Morgan Reid; sister, Anna Jo Lamb of Bartlesville; sister in law, Sandra Reid of Del City; nephews, Billy Reid, Joe Reid, Steve Reid and John David Lamb; nieces Toni Mitchell and Sheila Hicks; numerous other family and friends.
Casket Bearers are Joe Reid, Billy Reid, Steve Reid, John Lamb, Curt Wilson and Terry Langley.
Honorary Bearers are Roy Lyle, Jack Wilson, Bob Earl Stewart, A.C. Thompson, Tim Smith, Roy Zapala, Carl Quick, Boston Blankenship, Larry Lester and Bobby Clay.
Family visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Wed. evening at Alexander Funeral Home of Ringling.
