John Edward Black, Sr.

November 13, 1939 — September 15, 2010

Wilson – Memorial Services for Mr. John Edward “Sonny” Black, Sr., 71, are scheduled for 11:00 AM Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Alexander Funeral Chapel in Wilson with Rev. David Russell officiating. A private scattering of his ashes will be performed after his services. Services are under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.


Sonny was born Nov. 13, 1939 at Orr, OK to the late Steve “Pa” Black and Lucille Elizabeth (Guthrie) Black. He departed this life at home Wednesday evening, September 15, 2010.

Sonny was a Cowboy all of his years. He worked in between rodeos as a welder and rancher. He participated in the PRCA and IRA Rodeo Circuits for many years. He performed in several events including team roping and bareback riding and also was a judge for many rodeos. He always had a passionate love for his Horses and the Cowboy way of life. He had been a resident of this area for the last 15 years residing near Enville and was of the Baptist Faith.


Preceding him in death are his Parents, Sister, Patsy Russell, and Granddaughter Carly Rae Black- 1998.


Survivors include his Sons, John E. Black, Jr. and wife Cecilia of Wildomar, CA, Randy Black and wife Terri of Marietta. Sister, Jackie Croskell and husband Joe who was considered a brother by Sonny, of Ardmore. Brother, Don Black and wife Judy of Ardmore. Grandchildren, Travis Black, John Roy Black, Katlin Black, Catherine Vickers, Michael Lewis, and April Lewis. 3 Great Grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.


Honorary Bearers will be Joe Croskell, Ben Richerson, John Roy Black, Travis Black, Turk Gilmore, and David Ellifritz.


Memorials in memory of Sonny are asked to be made to the Ardmore Animal Shelter in care of Alexander Funeral Home/ 1302 7th St. Wilson, OK 73463.
