Ringling - Celebration of Life Services for Mr. Joe Lavern Roberts, 82, of Ringling are scheduled for 10:00 am Saturday June 22, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Ringling with Bro. Mike Williams and Bro. Chuck McElroy officiating. Interment will follow at the Ringling Memorial Cemetery. Services are under the care of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Ringling.
Joe was born October 29, 1936 at Orr to the late Mr. Isaac "Ike" Roberts and Mrs. Leoda (Shelton) Roberts. He departed this life on Wednesday evening June 19, 2019 at the hospital in Ardmore.
Joe was raised in Orr attending school there until its closing. He then attended school at Ringling where he graduated high school in 1955. Joe then attended college at OU for 1 year. He married the former Ms. Betty Tucker on June 5, 1958 at Healdton. Thereafter he was drafted into the United States Army serving honorably as a surveyor and was called back to active duty after his discharge during the Cuban Missile Crisis. His total active duty time was almost 3 years.
Upon leaving the military Joe worked mainly as an Iron worker and within the Oilfield. He retired from ARCO/ BP working within production for many years. He loved attending all the Ringling Blue Devil and Lone Grove sporting events and was one of their biggest fans. His grandchildren was always most important to him and he loved spending time with them. Joe was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ringling.
Preceding him in death were his parents Ike Roberts and Leoda Wigham; as well as Mildred Roberts, who was also like his mother; sisters, Shirley Ann McCrite and Gail Odom; brothers, Winston and Alan D. Roberts.
Survivors include his loving wife Betty of the home; daughter, Kim Pybas and husband Steve of Ringling; son, Joey Roberts and wife Kelly of Ringling; sisters, Pam Garner and husband Jim of Dickson and Keli Smith and husband Bryan of Ringling; brothers, Larry Roberts and wife Jamie of Burneyville and Paul Roberts and wife Tristan of Oswalt; grandchildren, Chelsey Glenn and husband Mark, Tyler Pybas and wife Jessica, Bailey Henley and husband Clinton and Taylor Pybas and fiance Micah; 6 great grandchildren and numerous other family and friends.
Casket bearers are Roy Lyle, Taylor Pybas, Tyler Pybas, Mark Glenn, Clinton Henley, Brent Thompson, Chad Thompson and Bobby Richardson.
Honorary bearers are Weston Pybas, Keller Glenn, Tucker Henley, Talon Henley, Sawyer Glenn and Tripp Henley.
Family visitation will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Ringling.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Ringling All Sports Club or Lone Grove All Sports to benefit the baseball program.
