Wilson - Funeral Services for Mrs. Joanne C. "Jodie" Porter, 87 of The Villages, FL are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., December 27, 2023, at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Wilson with Pastor Casey Fain officiating.  Interment will follow to Bomar Point Cemetery.

Jodie was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1936 and passed away in The Villages, Florida on December 9, 2023.  She was a graduate of Miami University of Ohio and taught school in Ohio for a number of years.  She moved to the states of West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky with her husband who was employed by an Ohio Steel firm.  After retirement they moved to Florida where she resided until her death.  

Jodie donated her time and talents for many years with hospital ladies' auxiliaries including their meals on wheels program.  She was also privileged to serve on the Paramount Arts board while living in Kentucky.  Last but certainly not least, she served actively in church activities as a Sunday school teacher and on various religious committees. 

The love Jodie had for her home and family fully illustrated the person she was.  Her persistence in finding just the right thing for the right space both inside and outside illustrated her creativity.  Every home had beautiful flowers and landscaping during the growing seasons.  Consistently trying to improve things provided a challenge which she happily sought.  Reading the latest novels by her favorite authors was her lifelong hobby. 

She made many good and dear friends through the years and thoroughly enjoyed those relationships.  As one of her friends said of her "She was very clever with her sense of humor and will brighten up Heaven".  She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. 

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Jodie is survived by her loving husband Gerald Dee Porter of the home; sister, Emma Wildermuth of Dayton, Ohio; nephews, Shawn and Todd; cousin, Peggy Clark and husband Rufus of Gainesville, TX and by a host of other family and friends.
