Wilson- Graveside services for Mrs. Joan Marie (Peck) Haslam, 90, formerly of this area are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday August 22, 2020 at Hewitt with family officiating. Services are under the direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Wilson.
Joan was born on July 30, 1930 at Comanche to the late Mr. Fred Crawford Peck and Mrs. Violet Marie (Hand) Peck. She departed this life on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at Homosassa, FL.
Joan was raised in Comanche graduating high school there. She married Charles Haslam 6 weeks after they met at only the age of 17. They had a wonderful life together for 72 years before he preceded her in death in 2018. We know that Charles was waiting for her in Heaven.
Throughout her life she was always very active in the Baptist church as the church secretary and treasurer, and organ player. She worked as a bookkeeper, in insurance, banking and had her own fabric store in Plainville, KS, known as Joan’s Fabric Store. She was very creative and enjoyed sewing, making clothing and men’s suits and drapes to decorate her homes and enjoyed needle point and cross stitching.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Charles Haslam; brothers, Fred S. Peck and Forest C. Peck; grandson, Ryan Haslam.
Survivors include daughter, Kathleen Anne Hilgers and husband Randy of Meriden, KS; son, Steven Paul Haslam and wife Martha of Homosassa, FL; sister, Nonie Lee (Peck) Pennington of Comanche; grandson, Chad Michael Haslam and granddaughter in law, Kimberly Haslam; numerous other family and friends.
