Jimmy Lee Sullivan

August 26, 1941 — November 24, 2021

A celebration of life for Jimmy Lee Sullivan will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Alexander Gray Chapel in Wilson, OK with George Lynn Harris officiating. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Wilson.

He left this Earth to join the heavens choir with his sisters and brothers on November 24, 2021 in Oklahoma City at the age of 80 years, 2 months, and 29 days.

Jimmy Lee Sullivan born August 26th, 1941 to Melvin Lloyd ( Hank) Sullivan and Syliva Anita Gazaway Sullivan. He was the baby of 5 siblings . Jimmy was born in Rexroat Oklahoma and moved to Borger Texas where he spent some of his early childhood. The Sullivan family returned to WIlson Oklahoma where Jimmy was a top athlete of the class of 1959. If it had anything to do with a ball and sports he excelled in football , basketball and track. Jimmy followed his brothers to the famous Marble Gardens where they all had inspiring thoughts of becoming top bull riders. The Sullivan family were incredibly musically talented and family singing was a weekly tradition.

Jimmy was an avid fisherman and spent many many hours learning from his dad and Uncle Ralph. Jimmy also loved coon hunting with Uncle Ralph and his dad south of Wilson. After graduation from Wilson High School Jimmy served his country and was a catapult officer on the famous USS Midway. Due to his quick thinking Jimmy was awarded a citation for saving the life of a pilot who was about to go over the front of the ship.

After serving his country Jimmy returned to his beloved Oklahoma where he finished college at Central Oklahoma University becoming a coach and teacher in Wilson Oklahoma. He was one of the most gifted coaches ever to coach at Wilson winning many basketball games with the famous Wilson Globetrotter Jr High basketball team who was undefeated. Jimmy was a die hard Oklahoma Sooners fan and no matter how bad the Cowboys got he still stayed faithful through the years. He had the opportunity to try out for a kicker for Dallas when he was playing semi pro football in Oklahoma City.

Upon leaving the coaching field Jimmy worked for Mobil Pipeline where he made many lifelong friends.
In July 1991 Jimmy married his soul mate and best friend , Elaine. Together they celebrated 30 years of an extended honeymoon from showing world champion horses , fishing tournaments , raising cattle, to traveling across the country never far from each other's side. Jimmy was at death's door so many times from stage 4 cancer, to heart attacks and would always come back to the love of his life. Together they will spend the rest of eternity between God's arms and Blue River.

Survivors include his soul mate and best friend Elaine. Daughter Katherine Stearns, grandson Chay Stearns Lone Grove, sons Brad and Scott Sullivan and family of Tulsa , Oklahoma. Niece Sheryl Wilson and husband Larry and family, Lone Grove; Beth Harris and Larry Harris and family of Ardmore Okla. Tina and AJ Bowerman and family of Fox, OKla, Tracy Ford and husband Brian and family of Wellston, Ok ,Jo Nell Sullivan Patrick and family, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Linda Sullivan, Ardmore; Nancy Dunavent and family of Ardmore; Debbie Graham of Amarillo, TX; Nephews Randy Sullivan, Wellston Oklahoma, Dean Sullivan, Ardmore, and Robert Tynes of Roswell, NM; Sister in laws Robbie Tynes and her family, Russell and Ryan Billingsley, Nell Sullivan all of Ardmore OKlahoma and special sons Riley Beck and Brad Goodall of Wilson and friend Cyndee Williams of Lone Grove. Special friends David Hull and the Hull's Environmental Crew , Earl Roberts , the Wilson Coaching staff of 1973- 1980 , the Mobil Pipeliners of 1980 to 1995.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Brad Goodall, Riley Beck, Dean Sullivan, Larry Wilson, Randy Sullivan, and Robert Tynes.

Preceding him in death was his dad , Hank Sullivan and mother Sylvia , sisters Anita Smith and Jerry Sullivan, brothers Marvin and Billy Sullivan; and a niece Kelly Sullivan. The music in heaven must be sweet.

Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the scholarship of the Class of 1959 so that another Wilson student can further their education.
