Jim was raised in his hometown, where he attended school and proudly graduated with the class of 1952. His pursuit of education led him to further studies at Tulsa Business College and ultimately the University of Oklahoma, where he focused on Pharmacy. On June 12, 1956, he married the love of his life, former Ms. JoAnn Gray, in a ceremony held at the Freewill Baptist Church in Oilton. Together, they were blessed with two wonderful children, Michael and Renata. In the spirit of service, Jim enlisted in the Army, where he served honorably for three years. During his time in the military, Jim was stationed at Brook Army Medical Center to attend medical laboratory school, before being stationed at 98 General Hospital in Neubruke, Germany, where he spent two and a half years. After his honorable discharge, Jim and his family settled in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for five years, where he began his career as a Medical Laboratory Technologist. In 1964, the Kinney family moved to San Angelo, Texas, a place that became their home for many years. Jim dedicated himself to his work as a medical laboratory technologist, contributing his expertise to numerous private doctors’ offices. He later joined Quest Diagnostics, where he worked tirelessly until his retirement in 1999. His commitment to his profession was recognized through his active involvement in the Texas State Society of American Medical Technology, where he earned numerous accolades at both state and national levels. In 2012, Jim and JoAnn moved to Wilson, OK, where they continued to build cherished memories together. Outside of his professional life, Jim was an avid sports fan, passionately supporting the Dallas Cowboys and the Oklahoma Sooners. Jim and JoAnn traveled to all 50 states, with many of those states visited more than once. They loved to travel and explore but out of all the trip's, his favorite was their visit to the Yellowstone National Park. Jim's life was characterized by his deep love for his family, dedication to his career, and enthusiasm for the simple joys of life.
