Wilson - A celebration of life of Jerry Phillip Dodd 65, of Celina, TX will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday March 9, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church of Wilson with Rev. Sherry Kendrick officiating. Interment will follow at the Hewitt Cemetery in Wilson. Services are under the direction and care of the Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.
Jerry was born October 5th, 1947 to the late Mr. Jack Dodd and Mrs. Alva “Valene” (Wilson) Dodd in Lindsey, OK. With his loving Family by his side, Jerry joined the Lord on Tuesday March 5, 2013 at Prosper, TX.
Jerry graduated at Dewey High School in 1965 then went on to college at Central State in Edmond, OK graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1969. During his college years, Jerry married his best friend and high school sweetheart Rose Vermillion in 1967. They were married for 47 years. During their marriage they lived in many cities and states. Jerry’s career in the Oilfield business gave him the opportunity to travel internationally. For many years, Jerry was an active member of the Masonic Lodge. Jerry and Rose have a daughter, Stephanie Celine (Dodd) Shelton. Both Jerry and Rose and their daughter currently reside in Celina, Texas.
Jerry never knew a stranger and everyone that knew him always said that he was a jokester! He was always teasing people and enjoyed a great laugh. Jerry was always ready to help anyone who had a need. Jerry was a kind hearted person in everyway. Jerry’s priority was his family. He loved his family dearly. Jerry loved spending time with his grandson Jett, picking him up after school, or taking him to his Karate class or if they were just simply watching TV together. Jett and “ Poppy “ had lots of great times that Jett will forever cherish.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Jack and Valene Dodd.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Rose Dodd, his daughter, Stephanie Dodd Shelton and her husband Kevin Shelton of Celina, TX, one brother, Jesse Dodd and wife Donna of Wilson, OK, grandchildren Jett and Addie. Mother in-law, Anna Vermillion of Dewey, Oklahoma and a very special sister and brother Gary and Patti Claxton of Wilson, Oklahoma as well as numerous family and friends.
Pallbearers include Bo Vermillion, Gary Claxton, Brett Claxton, Chicken Lynch, Matthew Dodd and Bruce Williams.
Visitation will be Friday March 8th from 6 – 8 pm at Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.
